New Co-Op FPS Game Is Like Gunfire Reborn Meets Monster Hunter

New Co-Op FPS Game Is Like Gunfire Reborn Meets Monster Hunter

An upcoming co-op FPS game on Steam called Guns and Dragons has been described by many fans as “Gunfire Reborn with base-building,” but it also appears to incorporate some Monster Hunter-like gameplay elements. Gunfire Reborn is one of the most successful examples of an FPS Steam game with dungeon-crawler mechanics, and Guns and Dragons seems poised to achieve similar success with its own unique spin on the subgenre.

The South Korean studio behind Guns and Dragons is ABUTTON, which was founded by former Nexon executive Kim Dae-hwan. Many of its lead designers and developers have also previously worked on renowned games such as Counter-Strike Online. Interestingly, the ABUTTON CEO previously spoke about an unannounced project inspired by “games like Rust and Seven Days to Die, which combine base building and survival.” He was likely referring to Guns and Dragons, although its current visuals look very different from those games.

Brand-New Military Simulation Game with Massive Battles Already Has 89% Very Positive Reviews

There’s a brand-new military simulation game earning rave reviews from fans of the genre, particularly for its epic, large-scale battles.

Guns and Dragons Is Aiming for Gunfire Reborn’s Addictive Loop

One of the biggest compliments Gunfire Reborn has received is its high replay value. The simple loop of crafting a build, entering the combat zone, and trying to leave with the highest score and best loot has kept the game’s player base engaged since early access started in 2020. Now, Guns and Dragons appears to be inspired by a similar design, with each match featuring a build-battle-buff progression designed with repetition in mind.

Base-Building Is Guns and Dragons’ Selling Point

While the core gameplay could be compared to many other FPS roguelike games, Guns and Dragons tries to set itself apart with a base-building system. Players can spend the resources they collect in dungeons to expand an operations base, which according to the developer, also improves their capabilities. As many fans have pointed out, the base-building visuals are also quite similar to games like Palworld, though their functionality is still unclear at this point.

Guns and Dragons Lets You Hunt Monsters, But with Firearms

Guns and Dragons describes itself as an FPS where players “blast monster hordes.” And one aspect in the game that has drawn comparisons to the Monster Hunter franchise is its bosses. It appears that each dungeon-crawling adventure in the game will end with a formidable encounter, perhaps even dragons, as shown in the teaser trailer.

The combat in Guns and Dragons is nothing like Monster Hunter, though. Describing the action, the game’s director, Park Jun-woo, said, “While the combat is designed to be challenging, the process of weapon build evolution offers players the joy of freely experimenting.” Guns and Dragons has confirmed that it will feature more than 40 weapons, including handguns, shotguns, and even bows.

Guns and Dragons Is Already in the Playtest Phase

Developer ABUTTON is inviting gamers to join a Steam playtest running from July 30 at 12:00 AM PST through August 10. Fans of co-op games on Steam should also note that Guns and Dragons supports up to three players in the same session. ABUTTON has not disclosed an exact launch date or release window. However, given that the game is already in the playtest phase, it is unlikely players will have to wait too long.

Guns and Dragons is also available to wishlist on the Epic Games Store.
