New Co-Op Game Is Stardew Valley Meets Enter the Gungeon, and It’s Already a Hit

A four-player roguelike game called Sephiria has launched its 1.0 version on Steam and has received 91% positive reviews from users. One of the things that makes Sephiria stand out among other roguelike games on Steam is that its visuals are reminiscent of cozy games like Stardew Valley, while its gameplay is as intense as famous bullet-hell titles like Enter the Gungeon.

Developer Team Horay previously released Dungreed, a 2D action roguelike that was well received by fans of the genre. Launched in 2018, it currently holds a Very Positive rating on Steam, with more than 90% of user reviews recommending it. Interestingly, Sephiria is considered Dungreed‘s spiritual successor, although it features a top-down perspective and an entirely different cast.

Enter the Gungeon is a 2016 bullet-hell title that is widely regarded as one of the best indie action roguelike games on Steam. It is known for its fast-paced gunplay, which demands quick reflexes and keeps every encounter as intense as possible. Sephiria is now drawing comparisons to the game thanks to its similarly demanding combat, where timing, positioning, and execution are key. However, instead of firearms, Sephiria places a much greater emphasis on melee combat.

Stardew Valley’s Mines Are a Cornerstone of Sephiria

A quick look at Sephiria‘s pixel art style is enough for many players to compare it to games like Stardew Valley. However, another gameplay feature that may remind players of ConcernedApe’s life sim is its mines. In Sephiria, the protagonist must descend through a mine designed like a downward tower, with each floor featuring a unique layout and design.

Sephiria Gameplay Features

  • 4-player online co-op
  • Rewarding boss fights
  • In-depth inventory management mechanics
  • Different weapons and build-crafting options
  • Lots of collectibles
  • 6 chapters and a newly added ending

Inventory Management Is Sephiria’s Biggest Selling Point

Steam has no shortage of pixel art roguelikes, but Sephiria sets itself apart with its unique inventory management system. The way players organize their inventory and combine trinkets and tablets to enhance their abilities can lead to a wide variety of builds and combat styles. Some of Sephiria‘s min-maxing mechanics are directly inspired by the developer’s previous game, Dungreed. However, its inventory-based approach to build crafting adds a fresh twist.

Sephiria’s Release Details and Price

After entering Steam as an early-access game in April 2025, Sephiria officially launched its 1.0 version on July 31, 2026. The full release introduces several new additions, including Chapter Six, a brand-new story ending, and a wide selection of new tablets and trinkets. Sephiria normally costs $14.99, but players can grab it for $8.99 thanks to a limited-time 40% launch discount available until August 10.

Sephiria also offers a free demo on Steam, allowing players to try the game before committing to a purchase.

According to SteamDB data, Sephiria‘s concurrent player count peaked at more than 24,000 shortly after launch, emphasizing the success of its full release. It will be interesting to see whether developer Team Horay can continue growing the player base in the coming weeks and whether Sephiria‘s success inspires more projects in a similar style.
