Fields of Mistria 1.0 Is the Best Kind of Bad News for Stardew Valley

Fields of Mistria 1.0 Is the Best Kind of Bad News for Stardew Valley

The wait is finally over for Fields of Mistria 1.0, and its full release brings plenty of fresh content that has what it takes to eventually dethrone Stardew Valley as the go-to cozy farm sim. Stardew Valley helped pave the way for Fields of Mistria to stake its claim as one of the top farm sims to watch, but what sets the latter apart is its emphasis on its world being filled with magic and featuring deeper relationships. The Stardew Valley influence is clear, but Fields of Mistria is far from a copycat farm sim.

Before Fields of Mistria‘s 1.0 release went live, the game had been in early access since 2024. It’s been a long road to get to this moment, but the amount of content in this update has made it well worth the time. This could potentially sound like bad news for Stardew Valley fans who have been loyal to the game for years, but there is plenty of room for Eric Barone’s indie masterpiece to share the spotlight with Fields of Mistria.

How to Go On Dates in Fields of Mistria

Romance is one of the most charming features in Fields of Mistria, as it allows you to go on whimsical dates with your partner. Here’s how it works.

Fields of Mistria’s 1.0 Launch Means That Stardew Valley Now Has Some Serious Competition

Frankly, it’s going to be really hard to take Stardew Valley off its throne. Stardew Valley‘s sales have officially surpassed 50 million copies, and that kind of success is difficult for an indie game to replicate. This year marked Stardew Valley‘s 10th anniversary, and its launch inspired a decade’s worth of other indie farm sims that have tried to capture that same magic. It’s not easy when a game has already staked its claim as something new and fresh. Fields of Mistria is probably the closest an indie farm sim has come to harboring the same kind of charm that Stardew Valley does, though.

Fields of Mistria’s 1.0 Update Adds Tons of New Content

  • Players now have more relationship milestones to look forward to.
  • Romanceable NPCs will now have 10 heart level caps instead of 8.
  • The Town Repair storyline is finally getting an ending.
  • New NPCs to interact with
  • Renown Level is raised to 100.
  • More rewards and items to collect
  • New Projects and quests added to the Request Board
  • New skill perks
  • More cosmetics, decorations, furniture, and mounts (with one of them being a giant chicken)
  • Steam Achievement system
  • Beta localization so fans can play in Japanese, French, Korean, Russian, Traditional/Simplified Chinese, and Spanish

One of the most exciting features is the addition of new NPCs. Fields of Mistria‘s romance options and NPCs have greater depth than Stardew Valley‘s, so having new characters to interact with is something that players have been looking forward to for a long time. The amount of content leaves a lot for fans to celebrate, and it has the potential to highlight the ways that Fields of Mistria improves upon some of Stardew Valley‘s base concepts even more.

Even though Stardew Valley is still the top dog when it comes to farm sim games, the past 10 years have seen plenty of games take some of its more frustrating aspects and improve upon them. Fields of Mistria has made some of the best improvements, and the 1.0 update is the perfect time to finally jump in and check out exactly what sets it apart from the game that kickstarted the farm sim renaissance.

Fields of Mistria Has a Lot Going for It, and Not Just With the 1.0 Content

Fields of Mistria Harvest Festival Guide

Taking a brief look at the reviews for Fields of Mistria on Steam paints a clear picture that farm sim fans absolutely love the game, even when it was in early access. At the time of writing this article, Fields of Mistria has over 21,000 reviews that make up an Overwhelmingly Positive score on Steam. That’s no easy feat, and it speaks to the game’s quality.

A New Game That Doesn’t Break the Bank

One of the best things about cozy farming games like Stardew Valley is that they’re usually quite cheap. Stardew Valley is still just $15, and Fields of Mistria is retaining its Early Access $14 price tag. Developer NPC Studio could easily have raised the price even by a dollar once the game left Early Access, but Fields of Mistria keeping its original pricing is the cherry on top of such a big launch.

In a world where it feels like gaming is becoming more expensive day by day, Fields of Mistria‘s price is a breath of fresh air. It’s a reminder that when games like GTA 6 and Mario Kart World bump up the standard AAA cost with $80 price tags, there are always great indies out there that offer a gaming experience that can be just as rewarding.

Fields of Mistria Irons Out Some of Stardew Valley’s Wrinkles

I have already mentioned that Fields of Mistria handles its characters better than the Stardew Valley NPCs, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Fields of Mistria is a more streamlined take on the farm sim genre by offering a simpler farming system, emphasizes a larger focus on Mistria’s community, and features NPC map tracking. Also, gameplay aspects like jumping and stores not closing are simple quality of life features that make a huge difference when comparing the experience to Stardew Valley.

The main advantage that Stardew Valley still has going for it is that it’s available on a lot more platforms than Fields of Mistria. NPC Studio has been solely focused on the 1.0 launch, so it’s unclear if Fields of Mistria will be coming to consoles down the road.

Fields of Mistria‘s base version boasts features that would require a Stardew Valley mod. Don’t get me wrong, Stardew Valley is a fantastic time, but Fields of Mistria is a smoother experience that feels like the go-to farming sim of the future. The two are incredible additions to the genre, and it’s going to be exciting to see how Fields of Mistria fares now that its 1.0 launch is finally here.
