Stop Killing Games, which defines itself as “a decentralized global initiative demanding legal consumer protections against the intentional destruction of video games,” and game preservation advocate DoesItPlay have announced that they’re officially supporting Stichting Massaschade & Consument’s “Fair PlayStation” collective lawsuit against Sony in the Netherlands, which accuses the multinational conglomerate of inflicting a “Sony Tax” on PlayStation owners by limiting sales of PlayStation games solely to its own digital storefront.
As originally covered by GamesRadar, Stop Killing Games and DoesItPlay revealed their collaboration with SM&G’s lawsuit in a post on X last night.
“SKG and DoesItPlay? are announcing that we’re backing SM&C’s (Stichting Massaschade & Consument) lawsuit against Sony over its total control of PlayStation Store pricing,” stated SKG on its official YouTube channel. “We’re putting our full weight behind SM&C’s case, with the Dutch court. “SM&C has to show the court it actually represents gamers, not just claims to. Our support backs that up globally. Every Dutch gamer who signs on backs it up directly.”

The Dutch non-profit group Stichting Massaschade & Consument (which roughly translates to “Mass Damage & Consumer Foundation”) launched its collective action lawsuit against Sony in early 2025 which, much like the “PlayStation You Owe Us” lawsuit in the United Kingdom, argues that Sony’s “monopoly” over the PlayStation Store has resulted in it “abusing its power in the digital game sales market.”
However, since Sony’s announcement that it will be ceasing the production of physical PlayStation media in January 2028, SM&G now argues that by only “allowing digital purchases exclusively within its own closed ecosystem,” Sony’s monopoly on its digital storefront is only poised to get worse.
As stated on its official website (machine translated from Dutch), SM&G states that Sony “will gain even more control over the sales, price and conditions of new PlayStation games within its own ecosystem” by limiting access to physical media and causing the “disappearance” of the secondhand video game market.
