Modern Warfare 4’s Campaign Isn’t A Horrible Mess Like BLOPS7

Modern Warfare 4’s Campaign Isn’t A Horrible Mess Like BLOPS7

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7‘s campaign was very, very bad. And now it seems like Activision and its parent company, Xbox, are trying to convince people that the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is different. For the first time ever, a CoD beta will include a campaign level for players to check out ahead of launch.

Last year’s Black Ops 7 wasn’t a great game. In many ways, it felt like an update to Black Ops 6 rather than a fully-featured sequel. While multiplayer was fine enough and zombies was mostly a good time, the game’s main campaign was a complete and total train wreck. It featured outlandish events, like fights against evil giant plants and demonic spiders, but didn’t have a story worth caring about to connect all of the disparate, horrid pieces. It sucked. And it and the rest of Black Ops 7 were such a disappointing mess that Activision had to basically say sorry last year, shortly after launch, and promise to do better. That might explain why the Modern Warfare 4 beta dropping next week includes a lot of content, including a single-player mission.

The fight is everywhere. Take a first look at “Entrenched” from the #MW4 Campaign.

On August 14, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced on social media that when the Call of Duty: MW4 beta goes live on August 21 for those who digitally pre-ordered the game, they’ll be able to get their hands on a single-player mission known as “Trenched.” This mission will also be available in the open beta that goes live the following week for everyone on all platforms on August 28.

Another first: The Modern Warfare 4 beta will give players a taste of the new Warzone: Resurgence map, Zodiac. On top of those two bits of beta content, players can expect to get their hands on multiple maps, game modes, guns, and more. These sound like very beefy betas, almost like Activision really, really wants to prove to CoD fans that it isn’t delivering a flop this time around.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC on October 23. Switch 2 owners will have to wait until the open beta to play MW4.

For the first time ever: Multiplayer. Campaign. Call of Duty: Warzone. All in one Beta.
