Iconic Final Fantasy 6 protagonist Terra Branford is about to make her grand return to the franchise in just a few days. To celebrate, Square Enix has officially revealed a new look for Terra that differs from her original Final Fantasy 6 art.
Final Fantasy 6 is often considered to be one of the best games in the series, with die-hard fans hailing its diverse cast of recruitable party members and complex narrative as among the best of any JRPG ever. Terra plays a big role in elevating Final Fantasy 6‘s cast and story to the heights it has reached in the over 30 years since the game originally launched, overcoming her personal identity crisis to face the villainous Kefka in an epic post-apocalyptic showdown. Now, fans of Final Fantasy 6 can relive this journey with Terra with a new piece of art ahead of her return in a brand-new Final Fantasy game.
Square Enix Shows Off New Terra Art to Celebrate Final Fantasy Resonance
With the launch of Final Fantasy Resonance just a few days away, developer Square Enix has shared a look at Terra’s new design through official artwork shared on Twitter. The illustration comes from artist Gen Kobayashi, whose previous work includes art designs for Square Enix games like Kingdom Hearts, The World Ends with You, and Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo. Kobayashi has also previously worked on the Final Fantasy series, creating artwork for the GBA ports of Final Fantasy 1 and 2, as well as Final Fantasy 5.
This new art of Terra showcases her classic red dress with a yellow sash around her shoulder, along with her controversial green hair. The original concept art for Terra featured blonde hair and a pink sash, but these elements of her design have changed over the years, including green hair for her sprite in Final Fantasy 6 and the yellow sash for this new Final Fantasy Resonance art. Final Fantasy Brave Exvius tritagonist Fina appears alongside Terra in this artwork as well.
In the Japanese version of Final Fantasy 6, Terra is known as “Tina,” meaning her pairing with Fina for this art is a cute rhyming reference.
As a home console remake of the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Final Fantasy Resonance shares a lot of overlap with the now-defunct mobile title. It’s no surprise to see Terra and Fina side by side in the celebratory art as a result, especially since Terra will appear in Resonance as a summonable Vision along with a handful of other major Final Fantasy characters, such as:
- Warrior of Light
- Firion
- Luneth
- Cecil
- Bartz
- Cloud
- Squall
- Zidane
- Tidus
- Shantotto
- Vaan
- Lightning
- Y’shtola
- Noctis
- Clive
Other notable Final Fantasy protagonists making their return in Resonance include Final Fantasy 10‘s Tidus, Final Fantasy 13‘s Lightning, and Final Fantasy 16‘s Clive. With Final Fantasy Resonance launching on October 22, fans won’t have to wait long to reunite with these beloved characters. Until then, the official Final Fantasy Resonance Japanese Twitter account has shared tons of other official character art to count down the days until it’s officially released.
