Strange World of Warcraft 12.1 Bug Could Be Blizzard Testing a New Feature

World of Warcraft players have spotted a new, very strange bug in the 12.1 Curse of Ula’tek update, but it might be Blizzard testing a new feature rather than a glitch. World of Warcraft‘s Midnight expansion entered a new season with the release of the Curse of Ula’tek update, adding new content for fans to enjoy, as well as a currently undiscovered Jimothy pet to celebrate the real-life Seattle internet sensation. World of Warcraft patches can sometimes come with bugs, and 12.1 is no exception.

For example, gamers found out that a quest in Undermine is currently bugged, and it takes players on a flying boat that goes out of bounds and disappears from the map. For these reasons and others, such as World of Warcraft‘s 12.1 update nerfing the best specs in the game, not all fans are happy with Curse of Ula’tek so far. Others have found joy in the new massive hydra-like pets for the Hunter class, the Amani Troll theme, and the new Coiled Isle, and it seems that reception overall is positive. A new bug is leaving fans puzzled, though, as it allows disconnected players to keep fighting.

Blizzard reveals that Jimothy, the short-spined raccoon taking over social media, is coming to World of Warcraft as a companion pet.

New World of Warcraft Bug Makes Disconnected Players Keep Fighting

A new presumed glitch has been found in World of Warcraft‘s 12.1 update, Curse of Ula’tek, that makes players who have been disconnected keep fighting enemies. Normally, disconnecting from the game can be problematic during M+ Dungeons and Raids in World of Warcraft, as well as in easier content, because players have to manually reconnect and hope their instance is still there. Instead, there have been reports complete with videos of players being disconnected, only for their characters to keep fighting enemies when in a group. This is likely a bug, especially considering its absence from WoW‘s 12.1 patch notes, but some fans are thinking that it might be a way Blizzard is using to test a feature to help players who are disconnected and their teammates.

In fact, WoW‘s M+ Dungeons and Raids can be quite difficult at times, and they require a lot of team effort to beat. An example is how a World of Warcraft player got a developer to cheat for them in M+ Dungeons, which sparked a huge debate about resetting leaderboards. If this is a bug, it’s a strange one because it’s very unlike what normally happens. However, if it is a feature being tested, it could be a major boon for endgame content and retaining instances in the face of disconnections, which can happen to anyone for various reasons. It’s also possible that the bug is the presumed feature going live for some users, rather than the fact that it happens at all.

Still, fans will have to wait for official word from Blizzard about it either way. If it’s a bug, it will be flagged as such and listed among the things that will have to be fixed in the future, and if not, Blizzard may release a statement about it. Regardless, Blizzard’s MMO remains one of the most loved games ever. Recently, Final Fantasy 14 confirmed it will have a World of Warcraft-inspired update for housing, showing that the game’s reach goes well beyond its playerbase.
