An indie game called Dire Echo with the same “stalked by a creature” vibe as Alien: Isolation is currently free to keep for PC users, but they need to act fast, as the promo ends soon. Dire Echo might not have extensive hide-and-seek mechanics, but it is still a nice little PC game to try for fans of Alien: Isolation who are currently waiting for the sequel.
In terms of story and setting, Dire Echo also has a lot in common with the Dead Space series. Players take on the role of an explorer tasked with investigating an abandoned spaceship. However, they soon realize that they are not alone and that a very creepy deep-space creature is following them.

The current free-to-keep promotion on itch.io will continue until August 31, giving players ample time to add it to their collections. Developed by TrueGames, Dire Echo normally costs $4.99 USD and is also available on other storefronts like Steam. In terms of gameplay, Dire Echo could be categorized as a walking simulator with horror elements, but the game also features some relatively simple puzzles.
One of Dire Echo‘s selling points is its realistic graphics, which add to the overall fear and intensity of the gameplay. There are also several well-timed encounters throughout the campaign that are likely to catch players off guard. That said, Dire Echo is still a small-scale indie game, so players should not expect visuals that compare to AA or AAA games or a lengthy campaign. In fact, beating Dire Echo typically takes around an hour, making it a nice choice for a quick gaming session.
