A brand-new Power Rangers release is on deck for Friday, August 28. Unfortunately for fans of the franchise, it’s not the best time to be a Power Rangers fan. There hasn’t been a new episode of the Power Rangers TV show since 2023, when the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers special “Once & Always” aired and the 10-episode Cosmic Fury hit Netflix. Fans had been used to getting a new season of Power Rangers almost every single year since the show premiered in 1993, so this gap in content has been disappointing for many.
There have been various reports about new Power Rangers projects behind the scenes. The latest news is that the new Power Rangers TV series that was in development with Disney has been shelved, and nothing official has been said about the rumored reboot movie at Paramount. But while Power Rangers fans have no new shows or movies to watch, they can at least look forward to fresh content in the PR video games.
RPM Red Ranger is Coming to Power Rangers: Legacy Wars
It’s been confirmed that Scott Truman, aka the Red Ranger from Power Rangers RPM, is coming to the fighting game Power Rangers: Legacy Wars in the August 28 update. Truman will be an Attacker class character, and will mark the third RPM character to be added to the game. Previous updates added Green Ranger Ziggy Grover and Silver Ranger Gemma. There are still a handful of RPM Rangers that could potentially be added in future updates, so fans should keep an eye out for more information.
It makes sense for Legacy Wars to add more characters from Power Rangers RPM to the roster. Power Rangers RPM is often hailed as one of the absolute best seasons of the show, with praise for its darker storylines and tone compared to other seasons. Power Rangers RPM originally aired in 2009 on ABC Kids, and is notable for being the last season of the show to air on that network. Future seasons would go to Nickelodeon and Netflix.
In any case, mobile gamers can soon enjoy a nostalgic throwback to Power Rangers RPM when Red Ranger Scott Truman is added to the Legacy Wars roster. Console gamers, unfortunately, don’t really have any RPM representation on modern platforms. Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid‘s roster hasn’t been updated in years, and there are no RPM characters available in the game. No new Power Rangers console game projects have been announced, and so it’s unclear if there will ever be proper RPM representation on consoles ever again.
The latest Power Rangers video game to hit the market was 2024’s Rita’s Rewind. Whereas Legacy Wars and Battle for the Grid are fighting games, Rita’s Rewind is a beat ’em up inspired by old-school arcade classics. It earned somewhat mixed reviews, but it at least offered a unique PR experience.
