Xbox Game Pass is getting a brand-new game in early September, with Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage scheduled to join the Microsoft subscription service. The game joins Xbox Game Pass as an enhanced remaster of Virtua Fighter 5, which originally released in 2006.
Microsoft’s premium subscription service offers a wide array of titles to choose from, spanning some of the console’s biggest games. Many of the company’s biggest first-party franchises are part of Xbox Game Pass, including new releases like Halo: Campaign Evolved and Forza Horizon 6. The service includes a wealth of major releases from third-party developers as well, offering both AAA games like Game Freak’s Beast of Reincarnation and popular indie games like Hollow Knight: Silksong. Now, Sega has surprised fans with the reveal of a popular fighting game coming to Xbox Game Pass.
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage Is Coming to Xbox Game Pass
Sega recently confirmed that Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage will be coming to Xbox Game Pass on September 10. Sega confirmed in the newest Producer letter that the Virtua Fighter 5 remaster will be joining the Game Pass lineup, alongside its debut as part of Xbox on PC. Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage previously released on Xbox Series X/S and PS5 in October 2025 as the newest in a long line of Virtua Fighter 5 remasters, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version released later in March 2026.
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage featured a wide variety of improvements to previous versions of the game. The new World Stage single-player mode serves as one of the main additions to the game, pitting players against a gauntlet of CPU-controlled fighters with playstyles based on Virtua Fighter 5‘s top pros. World Stage also included cross-play support on all of its platforms, alongside the introduction of rollback netcode for the fighting game. Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage even received a nomination for Best Fighting Game at the 2025 Game Awards, though it would ultimately lose to Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.
The newest version of Virtua Fighter 5 is the latest in a long line of remasters for the most recent entry in the iconic Virtua Fighter franchise. The original Virtua Fighter 5 first debuted in Japanese arcades in 2006, receiving multiple revisions before the first console version of the game launched on the PS3 in 2007. Sega has since launched multiple revisions and remasters for the game in the following years, including Final Showdown, Ultimate Showdown, and R.E.V.O. as the most recent major revision. World Stage first launched as a free update to Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage coming to Game Pass adds it to a select group of traditional fighting games on the service. Mortal Kombat 1 easily stands as one of the most well known, with the reboot of the Mortal Kombat franchise added to Game Pass in December 2025. Fans looking for a more lighthearted fighting game experience on the subscription service also have multiple options, with titles like Brawlhalla and Nickelodeon All-Stars Brawl 2 available.
