Xbox Game Pass is Losing One of the Best Games Ever This Month

Xbox Game Pass is losing another collection of games this month, including one of the best titles in recent memory. On October 15, Xbox Game Pass is set to lose Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the award-winning turn-based RPG from Sandfall Interactive.

In the nine years since Xbox Game Pass’ debut, it’s become common knowledge that each time the subscription service opens a door to let in a new batch of games, a window opens elsewhere and a handful of games fall out. At the best of times, the games leaving Xbox Game Pass are overshadowed by the ones joining the service that month, but some subscribers might think the losses outweigh the new additions this October. While Xbox Game Pass is getting highly-anticipated titles like Gears of War: E-Day and Valor Mortis this month, it’s also losing one of the most acclaimed games of all time.

Xbox Game Pass Starts October With an Awkward End-of-an-Era Reminder

October’s Game Pass lineup is now rolling out, led by an acclaimed title that doubles as an awkward reminder of how much Xbox has changed in 2026.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is officially leaving Xbox Game Pass on October 15. Clair Obscur has been available on Xbox Game Pass since its launch last April, when it received widespread critical acclaim. On OpenCritic, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 received a Top Critic Average of 92 and a critic recommendation score of 98%. In GameRant’s review of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Josh Cotts gave the turn-based RPG a 10/10, calling it a “masterclass in RPG storytelling, gameplay, and originality.” Of course, Sandfall Interactive’s debut game would also go on to sweep most 2025 award ceremonies, including The Game Awards, where it won a total of nine awards including Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, and Game of the Year.

Those wanting to jump in and complete Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 before it leaves Xbox Game Pass on October 15 are somewhat in luck. According to HowLongToBeat, Clair Obscur‘s main story can be finished in around 29 and a half hours, while completionist runs take an average of 69 hours. Compared to other critically acclaimed RPGs — some of which directly inspired Sandfall’s acclaimed entry in the genre — Clair Obscur‘s 30-hour runtime is actually quite reasonable.

Every Game Leaving Xbox Game Pass on October 15

  • Pacific Drive
  • A Plague Tale: Requiem
  • Evil West
  • The Casting of Frank Stone
  • Donut County
  • Crime Scene Cleaner
  • Superball
  • Nova Roma

Unfortunately, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 isn’t the only game leaving Xbox Game Pass on October 15. Ironwood’s first-person vehicle-based survival game Pacific Drive is set to leave Game Pass on October 15, as is Asobo’s narrative-driven adventure game Plague Tale: Requiem. While Pacific Drive will take players around 21 hours to beat, A Plague Tale: Requiem will take around 17.

Thankfully, every other game leaving Xbox Game Pass on October 15 can be beaten in much less time. Crime Scene Cleaner and Evil West should both take players around 12 hours to beat, while The Casting of Frank Stone should take around just 6 hours. Donut County has the shortest runtime of the lot, with even a completionist run taking just two and a half hours on average. Given that Nova Roma is an endless city-builder and Superball is a 3v3 multiplayer sports game, neither has a quantifiable runtime.
