Nowadays, it seems like every other week a publisher announces plans to officially shut down a game. In the best-case scenario, they might be delisted from stores and not rendered completely unplayable, though two recent Final Fantasy games weren’t so lucky. On the one hand, I kind of understand that you cannot keep an online-only game running that nobody wants to play; however, there needs to be a middle ground between forever servers and complete burial.
By the end of January 2027, a massive open-world RPG, a classic sim, a multiplayer romp, and a recent sports game would have walked into the sunset, leaving behind memories, frustration, and dreams of what could have been. Some of these titles might not be extremely active, but that isn’t the case for all of them, and one of their closures is particularly infuriating. If you want to play any of these games before they shut down their servers, you only have a few dozen days left to do so.
The “Days Left” section uses October 11 as its starting point.
New World Becomes History on January 31, 2027
Days Left To Play: 112
Here it is: the open-world RPG shutting down soon. As sad as this news is, New World‘s demise has been coming for a while, unfortunately. Despite a pretty massive launch in 2021 and a decent resurgence coinciding with the release of the console version (Aeternum), Amazon’s game struggled to maintain a player base that could justify and cover its costs.
Players who have purchased the game will be able to continue playing until January 31, 2027, when the game’s servers are permanently taken offline. Following that date, players will no longer be able to access New World: Aeternum on any platform. – Official announcement from Amazon Games
New World‘s closure isn’t just a result of a declining community, though, as this news came on the heels of Amazon shaking up and laying off parts of its gaming department. From what we know, Amazon seems set to scale down its projects, and I imagine New World‘s relative failure played a part in motivating this change in direction.
Should you play New World before it shuts down? There’s no reason to return to the game and grind the endgame content or anything like that. However, if you have nostalgia for New World, you might want to say your goodbyes before it’s too late.
TheHunter Classic Completes Its Last Hunt on November 11, 2026
Days Left To Play: 31
By far the most tenured game saying goodbye in Fall 2026, theHunter: Classic‘s 17-year run comes to an end in November 2026. Obviously, we cannot describe the hunting sim as anything but a success, but the playerbase has declined to the point of no longer being big enough to sustain active support. Due to being built around an always-online system, even single-player hunts require an internet connection, and a solution doesn’t seem to be on the cards.
Will you add an offline option so I can keep playing after the servers go offline? Unfortunately, due to the online nature of the game and how its core systems were built, it isn’t possible to make theHunter Classic playable offline. – FAQ page
Should you go on one last hunt before theHunter: Classic shuts down? While Call of the Wild has largely replaced its predecessor, an argument could be made that theHunter: Classic outdoes the newer game in a couple of areas. If nothing else, it is far more punishing. If you have any leftover currency, you should definitely make sure to use it on a couple of items, especially since Expansive Worlds has greatly cut down store prices.
Destruction Allstars Gets Put Out of Its Misery on November 25, 2026
Days Left To Play: 45
- Official announcement
- Launch date: February 2, 2021
- Arcade Mode single-player challenges will remain playable.
Sony delisted Destruction AllStars from the PlayStation Store in May 2026, and multiplayer servers were instantly shut down. Since then, you have been able to play the single-player challenges and Arcade mode, but most of them will also be gone by November 25. After that, only a sliver of content will continue to be accessible, so the game might as well be completely gone.
After this date, Arcade Mode single player challenges shall remain playable for returning players, however functionality and player experience may be impacted due to the server shutdown. Otherwise, all remaining game services will be taken offline. – Sony
While not bad by any means, Destruction AllStars never truly found its audience, and Lucid Games had to add AI bots within just a couple of months. Even though the servers were still alive, the game was essentially inactive throughout most of the last 5 years, with matches being few and far between. Destruction AllStars‘ funeral takes place on November 25, but its death happened a long time ago.
Should you go for one last drive in Destruction AllStars? I mean, does anyone really want to? Multiplayer is already dead, but you can do arcade runs if you want.
NBA 2K25 Becomes Unplayable for 99% of Players from December 31, 2026
Days Left To Play: 81

- Official announcement
- Launch date: September 6, 2024
- The strictly offline modes (Play Now, MyNBA, The W, and MyWNBA) will be available.
Yes, 27 months. That’s all she wrote for NBA 2K25, which sunsets its online content at the end of 2026. While a couple of fully offline modes will survive, the game is built entirely around MyCareer and MyTeam, with MyNBA being an afterthought; most people have no reason to step back onto the court once they cannot play online matches. This announcement just confirmed how disposable these annual sports games are, at least from the perspective of publishers.
There’s the final buzzer, it’s time for NBA 2K25 to be discontinued as of December 31, 2026. This game will no longer be available for purchase as of October 30, 2026. – Official Announcement
Should you play NBA 2K25 again? Don’t waste any more time playing MyCareer and MyTeam, as your effort literally amounts to nothing.
