An upcoming fan-made Pokemon game is bringing back the Battle Frontier, a fan-favorite feature that’s been missing for well over a decade at this point. The first Pokemon game to feature the Battle Frontier was Pokemon Emerald, with it becoming one of that game’s defining and most popular features. The Battle Frontier disappeared in the transition to Diamond and Pearl, but came back again as one of the big selling points of Pokemon Platinum.
The Battle Frontier returned yet again in Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver. It’s no coincidence that many fans consider the Pokemon games with the Battle Frontier as some of the best in the series, and it’s also not surprising that many have called for it to come back in future Pokemon games. No plans to bring back the Battle Frontier in an official Pokemon release have been announced at the time of this writing, and so fans are taking matters into their own hands.
Pokemon Monomyth Has Been 6 Years in the Making
There are all kinds of Pokemon fan games released on a regular basis, and some even include the Battle Frontier. The upcoming Pokemon Monomyth is one such fan game with the Battle Frontier, and it’s supposedly set to release at some point in the near future. The ambitious project has been six years in the making and the Battle Frontier is honestly just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the sheer amount of content in the game.
It’s been claimed that Pokemon Monomyth has over 75 hours of gameplay spread across its brand-new Athanto region. The game’s roster includes “over 360 brand new and returning Pokemon” for players to catch. Beyond the Battle Frontier, Pokemon Monomyth also features Contest Halls, Trainer Hill, multiplayer, side quests, and various secrets to discover, so there’s plenty of extra content for those looking for a meaty Pokemon experience.
While there are many that enjoy Pokemon fan games like Monomyth, others are only concerned about the real thing. Luckily, we know that the next main series Pokemon games are in active development and set to launch in 2027. Pokemon Winds and Waves are coming to the Switch 2, and will have plenty of brand-new Pokemon of their own to catch. So far, only three have been revealed in an official capacity, with the Winds and Waves starter trio unveiled at last year’s Pokemon Day.
It’s believed that the next time fans will get to see Pokemon Winds and Waves is next Pokemon Day, February 27, 2027. If that’s the case, it’s highly likely that more new Pokemon will be revealed, along with other features fans can expect to see from the games. It’s possible that an official return of the Battle Frontier could be in store, but fans shouldn’t hold their breath. It’s best to keep one’s expectations in check. In the meantime, the Battle Frontier may be coming to the Switch through the rumored Pokemon Emerald port, but again, it’s better to wait for official confirmation before getting too excited.
