The fan-favorite Shipment multiplayer map will arrive in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 just a few days after the game’s full release, according to a roadmap revealed by developer Infinity Ward on social media. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 is currently available in early access on all current-gen platforms.
Set in a shipping yard near Chernobyl, Ukraine, Shipment was first introduced in 2007’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Though it was initially created as a developer’s testing ground, the compact map gained notoriety for its frantic, fast-paced action. Given that the other side of the map can be reached in just a few seconds, players can sometimes be gunned down right as they respawn in a match. While some Call of Duty players have expressed discontent with Shipment over the years, other players enjoy the map for its small size and support for multiple game modes.
Shipment Drops in Modern Warfare 4 on October 27
Though Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will fully launch at midnight Eastern on Friday, October 23, players will have to wait just a little longer to re-experience one of the Call of Duty series’ most divisive maps. Shipment arrives in Modern Warfare 4 on Tuesday, October 27, according to a roadmap posted by Infinity Ward on social media ahead of early access. Though it will retain its notoriously small map size, Shipment will also support all Core and Hardcore game modes, such as Team Deathmatch and new modes like Collateral and Inflation. Starting October 23, a total of 20 multiplayer maps will be ready for players to pick from, such as Sentry, Kill Block, and Rooftops. Once Shipment arrives a few days later, the total map count will increase to 21.
Although Shipment will not be a day one feature, players will still have a lengthy patch to download before jumping into the game’s multiplayer modes. Infinity Ward revealed the patch notes for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4‘s debut, which include some changes from the game’s Beta testing period. A new Proving Grounds course will provide players with some combat training and movement exercises as a way to test out the game’s controls. Other changes based on player feedback were made to the game’s weapon system, with SMGs becoming a strong choice for close to mid-range combat.
Given that Shipment will remain a compact map in Modern Warfare 4, players can utilize it as a way to quickly earn camos and other sought-after cosmetics. Although earning gun camos will be tied to weapon level rather than a headshot count, Weapon XP can still be quickly earned by playing on Shipment. Special weapon camos can also be unlocked independently of standard military camos and can be applied to any weapon afterward. For example, the Smoke Camo can be unlocked by getting 75 mounted weapon kills in DMZ or 20 kills in other multiplayer modes.
Additionally, Modern Warfare 4 players who pre-purchased the game can get a head start on multiplayer progression via DMZ, which grants Player, Weapon, and Rank XP. By doing so, players can unlock multiplayer modes faster once the game fully launches.
