Xbox Game Pass Adds Day-One ‘Grand Theft Cthulhu’ Game and More

Xbox Game Pass Adds Day-One ‘Grand Theft Cthulhu’ Game and More

Xbox Game Pass has added a day-one title called Dead Static Drive to its library, while also expanding the availability of one previously introduced game. Regularly priced at $29.99, Dead Static Drive marks the third addition to Microsoft’s subscription service for November 2025, as well as the 192nd new Xbox Game Pass release since the beginning of the year.

Developed by Melbourne-based Reuben Games, Dead Static Drive is billed as a “Grand Theft Cthulhu”-style experience, in which players must survive a nightmarish road trip through an alternate, post-apocalyptic version of the 1980s American Southwest. The setting draws inspiration from various sources of weird fiction, including the writings of T. E. D. Klein, the photography of William Eggleston, and the films of David Lynch. Gameplay-wise, Dead Static Drive is a road trip survival game that owes a lot to The Oregon Trail and similar titles. However, the Lovecraftian Eldritch monsters roaming its many environments give it a distinctly horror atmosphere. The story follows a lone character, Hearst, as they search for their parents in a collapsing world and seek answers about the cause of the apocalypse.

Dead Static Drive Joins Xbox Game Pass as Sniper Elite: Resistance Reaches Premium Tier

Following approximately a decade of intermittent development, Dead Static Drive launched on November 5 for PC, consoles, and Xbox Game Pass. As a day-one title, this road trip survival horror experience is currently limited to PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate. Its release coincides with Sniper Elite: Resistance joining the Premium tier of Microsoft’s gaming service. The latest Sniper Elite entry was one of the first day-one Xbox Game Pass releases of 2025, having originally debuted on January 30.

When Will Dead Static Drive Come to Xbox Game Pass Premium?

The nine-and-a-half-month gap between Sniper Elite: Resistance‘s Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Premium launches offers a rough indication of how long Dead Static Drive may remain unavailable on the service’s middle tier. The October 1 Xbox Game Pass restructuring saw Microsoft commit to making day-one Ultimate titles available on the one-tier-lower subscription within a year—an approach already reflected in practice during the brief lifespan of the XGP Standard tier, launched in September 2024. Some titles during that period became available on lower tiers as early as six months after their Ultimate debut. This pattern and Microsoft’s recent communications indicate that Dead Static Drive may reach Xbox Game Pass Premium between May and November 2026.

Ten more titles are currently confirmed for release on Xbox Game Pass over the rest of November 2025. These include Whiskerwood, Egging On, Great God Grove, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. However, the lineup is not yet complete, with the second wave of this month’s additions expected to be announced on or around November 14.
