Steam 2D Action RPG With Classic JRPG Vibes Can Be Claimed for Free

Steam 2D Action RPG With Classic JRPG Vibes Can Be Claimed for Free

Inotia 4, a classic game with JRPG vibes, has recently been ported to PC and released as a free-to-play title on Steam, giving fans of games like Octopath Traveler something new to check out. Inotia 4 may not be a new name to many RPG enthusiasts, but it is a fresh face on Valve’s storefront that fans may want to check out.

When it comes to retro role-playing games on Steam, there are plenty of options for fans of the genre. There are PC ports of classic gems, remakes of genre staples, and reboots of unforgettable franchises. However, not many come as free-to-play titles, which is why a game like Inotia 4 should not slip under Steam users’ radar.

Upcoming Role-Playing Games People Are Excited For

While plenty of RPGs have been announced for 2025 and beyond, these upcoming role-playing games are especially exciting.

Inotia 4 Has Serious Octopath Traveler Vibes

Fans of RPGs with a Japanese anime touch can currently download and play Inotia 4 on Steam for free. The game first launched in 2012 on mobile devices, and it was recently re-released for PC on December 8, 2025, giving both newcomers and longtime fans a chance to revisit it. Inotia 4 has long been a popular pick among players who enjoy pixel-art games like Octopath Traveler, thanks to its nostalgic gameplay and visuals. Much like Square Enix’s JRPG, it offers interesting recruitable characters, unique classes, and a wide selection of weapons and utility items. The biggest difference comes from its combat system, which is not turn-based. Players can move freely during fights or even avoid enemies altogether while exploring the map.

Inotia 4 is the first installment from the KRPG series to arrive on the Steam store, and it includes support for Steam Deck and controllers. Developer Com2Us has promised updates to improve performance and address bugs and glitches. But based on the game’s current Very Positive average review on Steam, most players seem happy with how it runs and plays. Many reviewers mention that Inotia 4 is a nostalgic action RPG they first experienced on their phones years ago. One fan wrote, “Found this game by accident like a decade ago on my phone… I screamed when I saw it pop up on Steam.” Newcomers also praise the visuals and story, calling Inotia 4 a worthwhile pick for fans of the genre, especially since it is free to play.

Players should note that Inotia 4 does include microtransactions. The in-game store allows players to purchase currencies like gems, as well as utility items, gear, and rare weapons. Most of these can be unlocked for free through progression, though some may require a bit of grinding. There is a crafting and forging machine in the game that lets players create rare items, which helps reduce the need for buying gems.

Steam users looking for more role-playing games with Octopath Traveler vibes are in luck because there are several other free-to-play options. One of the best is Sword of Convallaria, a turn-based tactical JRPG with eye-catching pixel art and a catchy story. Developed by XD, Sword of Convallaria launched in 2024 and has since earned a Mostly Positive average user review score on Steam.
