Revealed during the recent Nintendo Indie World presentation, the world of Blighted is described as a psychedelic western nightmare that centers on the idea of preserving history through nature. In this setting, the people of the past followed a unique ritual where the dead were buried with special seeds planted directly in their brains. These seeds eventually grew into a “memory forest” of trees that surrounded the village, bearing fruit that contained the knowledge and traditions of those who had passed away. This allowed the community to learn from their ancestors for generations. However, everything changed when a figure known as Sorcisto corrupted this sacred ritual by eating brains raw to gain immense power. Sorcisto destroyed the memory forest and infected the land with a creeping corruption called the Blight. Players step into the role of the lone survivor of this massacre, fighting to recover the lost memories of their people before the infection takes over their own mind.
