Black Ops 7 Is About to Kick Off Another Double XP Weekend

Developer Treyarch Studios is gearing up to kick off yet another Double XP weekend for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Warzone, giving players the chance to earn twice as much Level XP, Weapon XP, and Gobblegums. Since the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 last month, Treyarch and Activision have been making it easier than ever for players to get their hands on Double XP, with the upcoming weekend now being the fourth in the span of a month.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, the latest mainline entry in the series, has been available for a little over a month now, after launching for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on November 14. Unfortunately, its release appears to have been somewhat subdued for a new Call of Duty game. While Battlefield 6, undoubtedly Black Ops 7‘s biggest competitor, soared past 747,000 concurrent Steam players at launch, the latest entry in the Call of Duty series didn’t quite have the same effect. The first weekend of its release saw Black Ops 7‘s Steam launch numbers peak at a little over 100,000. Although this doesn’t account for console numbers, it’s a clear sign of a lackluster launch.

Publisher Activision was likely hoping to see those numbers rise with the launch of Black Ops 7‘s big Season 1 patch on December 4, but the massive content update once again failed to see a noticeable increase in users. However, Treyarch Studios did pull out all the stops for the shooter’s first season, adding five new Multiplayer maps with more to come as part of Season 1 Reloaded. The patch also saw the addition of tons of new weapons, game modes, Operator skins, and more. Warzone fans were also treated to a brand-new Resurgence map, two new modes, new points of interest on Verdansk, and more.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’s next Double XP weekend begins on Friday, December 19.

With interest in the latest title seemingly at a low point for the series, Activision and Treyarch have been rolling out Double XP weekends for Black Ops 7 and Warzone on a much higher frequency than usual. Since the game’s launch on November 14, there have already been three events, and a fourth has just been revealed. The next Double XP weekend for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Warzone will kick off on Friday, December 19, and run until Monday, December 22. During this time, level and weapon XP will be doubled, as well as the earn rate for Gobblegums in Zombies. There’s yet to be confirmation on whether the event will include Double Battle Pass XP, but this seems unlikely, as Treyarch usually waits until the end of the season to activate it.

It’s unclear why there have been so many Double XP events since launch, but it could be an attempt to increase player count numbers and overall retention. While the series has often dominated sales charts, it’s clear that Call of Duty is at a serious low point, as new sales data recently revealed that Black Ops 7 was far from being the best-selling game of the year. Although it dominated the charts in November, end-of-year data shows it is nowhere near beating the likes of Battlefield 6 or NBA 2K26, both of which hold the first and second spots, respectively. Instead, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is currently the seventh best-selling game of the year. While still massively impressive, Black Ops 6 took the second spot with ease in 2024.

For those who are still loving everything Black Ops 7 has to offer, Activision recently revealed the first details for the shooter’s Season 1 Reloaded update. While there is currently no release date for the mid-season patch, the publisher has announced that it will include a new collaboration with the Fallout TV series, bringing some new skins to the game based on characters from the show.
