Project Gorgon Players Are Having Lag Problems in Serbule

Project Gorgon Players Are Having Lag Problems in Serbule

The newly released MMORPG game Project: Gorgon has faced numerous issues early on, with struggles in the town of Serbule being prominent among its players. First released in early access back in 2018, Project: Gorgon is the work of two industry veterans in the MMORPG space, Eric Heimburg and the late Sandra Powers, formerly known for their work on Asheron’s Call. Even amid struggles with funding and Powers’ passing in 2025, developer Elder Game pushed through and successfully managed to push the game out of early access and give it a full release this month.

In its short time on the market, Project: Gorgon has become quite successful on Steam, with its player count spiking to over 2,000 after sitting in the hundreds throughout its early access period. The game promises immersive gameplay that encourages players to explore and interact with the game’s world, rather than providing quest markers to guide their path. Project: Gorgon looks to carve its niche in a crowded market with old-school charm reminiscent of an earlier era in the MMORPG genre.

8 MMORPGs With The Best Daily Grind

Daily activities and quests are a staple in many MMORPGs, but not all of them manage to make the grind as fun as the following titles.

Project: Gorgon Players Struggle Through Lag And Frame Rate Drops

On the Project: Gorgon subreddit, several users have reported performance issues when playing in the Serbule town. User Pemocity406 noted that, after initially averaging 122 FPS in every area of the game, they recently started to average 28 FPS in downtown Serbule. Pemocity406 notes that they did not change any in-game settings, and the frame-dropping is not related to weather effects, as they regularly reach over 100 FPS even when it rains in the game.

Another user, FurlaniJr, also found that the frame rate drops when in Serbule, posting a Reddit thread of their own to query if other players are experiencing such issues. Meanwhile, user Demoth posted a thread describing their experience with lag, noting that the game’s persistent freezing made enemy encounters nearly impossible and caused several unwarranted deaths. Comments across each thread indicate that server performance and hardware changes are to blame, offering some leeway as the game is an independently developed MMORPG.

Elder Game may have been unaware of the sheer interest in a spiritual successor to the hugely influential Asheron’s Call, and therefore been caught off guard by the spike in its player count. The team has been keenly aware of the server issues plaguing Project: Gorgon, creating a second server to help offset the sudden spike in players. However, evidently, this second server was where the majority of players migrated, which naturally contributed to its overpopulation and the resulting issues. The team is nevertheless working on a third server to offer some further breathing room while patching the issues that are plaguing the already available servers.

Considering the game’s long early access development and the roadblocks it faced upon reaching its full release, it’s impressive that developer Elder Game made it to the finish line with the project. Currently, the team is working diligently to keep up with the game’s rapidly increasing playerbase, and these issues with lag and performance should not persist for very long. Project: Gorgon should get back on track quickly and continue to carve its lane as an exciting old-school MMORPG.
