Sony closed its latest PlayStation State of Play event to shadow drop a brand-new God of War game as well as confirm the long-rumored Greek Trilogy Remake. God of War is one of Sony’s biggest franchises of all time, and so it’s no surprise that it was featured as the final announcement at the February 2026 State of Play.
Santa Monica Studio has put out one incredible new God of War game after another. The original games are beloved for their intense action and epic moments, while the newer titles are praised for their emotional storytelling and brutal over-the-shoulder fights. It’s long been assumed that a brand-new game set after the events of God of War Ragnarok is in the works, and while that may very well may be, the two newly announced God of War projects are looking to Kratos’ past.

Santa Monica Studio’s God of War has produced many great games. Naturally, some of Kratos’ bloody PlayStation adventures are better than others.
God of War Greek Trilogy & Sons of Sparta Officially Announced
As announced at the February 2026 PlayStation State of Play event, God of War: Sons of Sparta is shadow dropping today and Santa Monica Studio has also officially started development on a remake of the God of War Greek Trilogy. These projects were confirmed by TC Carson, who was the original voice actor for Kratos before being replaced by Christopher Judge in the 2018 game and God of War Ragnarok. The God of War Greek Trilogy remake is still very early in development, so we didn’t learn much about what direction it’s going to take. It’s possible all three games will get remakes one at a time, but it’s also possible the story will be condensed into one big game. It could be that the games retain their classic gameplay, but with updated visuals, but one has to imagine that converting the original trilogy to an over-the-shoulder style like the 2018 game and Ragnarok is at least being considered.

While God of War fans wait for more information on the Greek Trilogy remake, they can jump into the brand-new entry in the series that is being shadow dropped on the PS5 immediately. God of War: Sons of Sparta retails for $29.99 for the Standard Edition and $39.99 for the Digital Deluxe Edition. The Digital Deluxe Edition comes with in-game items, a Digital Artbook, a Digital Soundtrack, and a PlayStation Network avatar of Young Kratos.
God of War: Sons of Sparta Digital Deluxe Edition Content
Sons of Sparta is the official title of the long-rumored God of War 2D action platformer. It features a child Kratos training alongside his brother Deimos, showcasing one of Kratos’ earliest adventures. Kratos will primarily use his spear and shield throughout the game, but he will also acquire special artifacts to assist in his journey as well. The game, developed by Mega Cat Studios, features a pixel art style that makes it look like a 16-bit game, which may prove controversial, but it’s an interesting take on the series nevertheless. What may also have people scratching their heads is its T for Teen rating, considering how violent most games in the franchise are, but that could just be because the art style effectively tones everything down.
TC Carson isn’t just back to play Kratos in the God of War Greek Trilogy remake. He also provides narration in Sons of Sparta, which should give the game a nostalgic edge for longtime God of War fans. There are no reviews out for God of War: Sons of Sparta yet, since it just shadow dropped, but it will be interesting to see how everyone reacts to the game. Regardless, with the confirmation that the Greek Trilogy is getting remade, there is a lot for God of War fans to look forward to in the future.
