esident Evil Requiem Shows Leon’s Return to Raccoon City Police Department

The February 12 PlayStation State of Play included a closer look at Resident Evil Requiem ahead of its impending launch, and many were happy to see the latest trailer confirming Leon S. Kennedy’s return to the iconic Raccoon City Police Department, as well as Capcom’s reveal of PS5 Pro support for the game. Resident Evil Requiem is slated to launch for Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on February 27, and the latest footage from the State of Play has revealed new details, including a sneak peek at a mysterious character who may be a returning face from the franchise.

When it was first revealed that Raccoon City would be the setting of Resident Evil Requiem, franchise fans were immediately keeping their fingers crossed for a secondary protagonist to join lead Grace Ashcroft, who was the first playable character to be unveiled. Luckily for fans, Capcom finally confirmed that series favorite Leon S. Kennedy would be making a triumphant return back to the city where his journey against bioweapons first began. Each subsequent trailer has teased more tidbits about the gameplay, environments, and stories, and the latest promotional video for Resident Evil Requiem has not only confirmed fan speculation about Leon but has even hinted at more surprises awaiting fans.

Resident Evil Requiem State of Play Trailer Teases New Leon Details

The fourth trailer for Resident Evil Requiem, shared during the State of Play, shows snippets of dialogue between Grace and Leon, as the two discuss villain Victor Gideon and the Elpis infection. Leon asks Grace why Gideon has pursued her, while Grace reiterates to Leon that the two are “running out of time.” A brief glimpse at Leon showing off an infected hand seemingly indicates that Leon may be looking for a cure, further fueling fan fears that Resident Evil Requiem may be Leon’s swansong before being killed off. However, further conversation between Grace and Gideon may be hinting at a possible cure, with mention of a “former T-virus researcher” giving audiences hope that Leon will once again overcome any challenge he faces.

The trailer ends with a short clip of a young blonde woman speaking to Leon over the radio as he once again steps back into the Raccoon City Police Department. Despite its crumbling facade and interior, the RPD immediately conjurs up nostalgia and tension, making for a perfect fit with the new story. Fans speculate that the young woman could be Sherry Birkin, perhaps fulfilling the rumors of another familiar character returning in Resident Evil Requiem. Sherry Birkin’s father, William Birkin, was a T-virus researcher, and after she was rescued by Leon and Claire Redfield in Resident Evil 2, it would make sense for her to make the same heroic return to Raccoon City as Leon. It remains a mystery why Leon must return to the RPD, but audiences are already celebrating the slew of possibilities for the game’s story at that iconic location.

While there is no official confirmation that the young woman in the latest trailer is indeed Sherry Birkin, a team-up between Sherry, Leon, and Grace would be a fitting way for Resident Evil Requiem to connect to older games in the franchise. Speculation aside, many are happy to see that Resident Evil Requiem will have PS5 Pro support. Capcom did not share any specifics on what would be included with the PS5 Pro support for Resident Evil Requiem, but owners of that console can usually look forward to enhanced graphical and performance capabilities for new games. Interested fans can stay tuned for any more details and updates on Resident Evil Requiem before audiences dive back into the horrors of Raccoon City on February 27.
