Control Resonant Shows Off New Gameplay

Developer Remedy Entertainment debuted a new gameplay trailer for Control Resonant during the February State of Play. This all-new look at Control Resonant gives fans a better insight into protagonist Dylan Faden’s supernatural abilities and the assortment of enemies he’ll be facing during the long-awaited sequel.

Released in August 2019, Control sees players assume the role of Jesse Faden, a woman on a mission to locate her missing brother. This mission takes Jesse to the Oldest House, the headquarters of the mysterious Federal Bureau of Control, which she soon discovers has been the site of a mass outbreak of paranatural threats. Control earned critical acclaim upon its launch, and it currently sits at a Top Critic Average of 84 on OpenCritic, with 89% of critics recommending the game.

The Biggest Games Revealed At State Of Play That Are Coming In 2026

February 2026’s State of Play unveiled several exciting new games, a few of which are set to debut on the PS5 and other platforms in 2026.

Control Resonant Releases New Gameplay Trailer

Announced during the 2025 Game Awards, Control Resonant‘s reveal trailer focused primarily on setting the stage for the sequel, reintroducing fans to Dylan Faden and teasing a city-wide paranatural invasion. A few brief shots of gameplay were shown during this initial reveal, hinting that Control Resonant is putting a greater emphasis on melee combat than its predecessor. A newly released Control Resonant State of Play trailer confirms that melee is a focus and gives fans an extended look at some of the sequel’s new gameplay features.

Control Resonant‘s new gameplay trailer follows player-character Dylan Faden as he hunts for one of the game’s titular Resonants. These Resonants are described as the “remnants of people who once held great power” who have been corrupted by the same paranatural force that’s threatening the rest of New York City. Gameplay-wise, these Resonants will act as major boss fights, each one coming with a distinct moveset and visual design. Defeating a Resonant will reward the player with a new combat ability.

Dylan’s hunt for the trailer’s Resonant takes him through the West Incursion Zone, an area of Manhattan that’s currently experiencing a gravity-affecting anomaly, resulting in architecture folding in on itself. To traverse this area, Dylan makes use of his ‘Reach’ and ‘Shift’ abilities. Reach lets players teleport to new structures, while Shift lets them redirect gravity so that they can walk along the surface of upside-down buildings, similar to the player’s main ability in the Gravity Rush series. In a PlayStation Blog post, Control Resonant senior game designer Sergey Mohov confirmed that the sequel is not fully open-world, but instead features “large, distinct, and expansive zones filled with side activities, hidden encounters, and optional discoveries.” The West Incursion Zone is one such zone.

Between gravity-defying leaps, Dylan Faden faces off against a range of paranatural threats during the new Control Resonant gameplay trailer. Dylan wields a weapon known as the ‘Aberrant’, which can change forms on the fly much like the Service Weapon wielded by Dylan’s sister in 2019’s Control. The trailer shows the Aberrant turning from a large single blade into dual daggers, a pair of fists, a gigantic hammer, and a sweeping scythe, and Mohov’s PS Blog post teases that other forms will appear in the final release. Mohov also teases “deeper customization” and a loadout system that will have players equipping a variety of weapon forms and unlocked abilities before they head into battle.

Control Resonant‘s first trailer ended by confirming a 2026 release window, and that same window was reiterated in the final moments of its recent State of Play trailer. When it does release, Control Resonant will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
