Drew Swanson is a Features Article Editor from the Pacific Northwest of the United States. Being a gamer all his life and enjoying everything from ARPGs like Diablo to JRPGs like Pokemon and Persona, his love of digging into game lore and history naturally led to a passion for sharing these ideas with others through writing. He has been writing about games professionally for over 4 years, with bylines as a Contributing Writer at High Ground Gaming for 2 years before joining GameRant. He also has a background in video game studies with a degree from Washington State University, where he also won the Showcase for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities Award in 2021 for his writing and design work on the game Quest for Arete.

Despite Pokemon Legends: Z-A offering players a robust experience complete with new Mega Evolutions and a new battle system, Pokemon Pokopia has already surpassed it in one important area. As a new spin-off of the franchise, it wouldn’t seem like Pokemon Pokopia could compete with a mainline title at first glance. However, recent details have surfaced about Pokopia‘s Pokedex that suggest it will be even bigger than what was available in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

A life sim game in the Pokemon franchise is something that seems like a natural fit for a series with so many cozy elements already. Pokemon Pokopia combines the best features of games like Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing with the world of Pokemon to create a new spin-off in the same vein as classics like the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series. While building a cozy town for critters to inhabit is a core part of Pokopia‘s gameplay, in classic Pokemon fashion, filling out the Pokedex is another gameplay pillar, and it appears to be more robust than Legends: Z-A‘s.

Pokemon Pokopia Officially Has a Bigger Pokedex than Pokemon Legends: Z-A

According to a screenshot posted by Centro Leaks on X, Pokemon Pokopia has at least 284 critters to be found. The screenshot shows the Pokedex entry for Espeon at number 284, but this Eeveelution is not even the last of the bunch, and is hardly ever at the end of the Pokedex. As such, Pokemon Pokopia allegedly has over 300 entries in its Pokedex, meaning that players will be able to encounter a fairly solid crop of creatures from the franchise’s over 1,000 total mons.

Although an exact number is not known, Pokemon Pokopia having even 284 critters in its Pokedex puts it ahead of Pokemon Legends: Z-A in terms of available mons in the base game. With 130 more Pokemon added via the Mega Dimension DLC, Pokemon Legends: Z-A is sitting at 362 total for those who own both the base game and DLC. While this number is larger than what is currently known of Pokopia‘s Pokedex, there is always the possibility that Pokopia gets DLC of its own that expands its Pokedex further. Still, taking only the base games into consideration, Pokemon Pokopia has eclipsed Legends: Z-A in terms of the number of critters players will be able to find at launch.

These Pokemon have all been spotted in official promotional pieces or in preview gameplay footage, so it is confirmed that they are present within Pokemon Pokopia. However, this list only features some members of certain evolutionary lines, but it’s expected that all evolutions will be featured in some way. Furthermore, the majority of mons on this list come from early generations, with Gen 1’s Kanto Region in particular being spotlighted in this Pokedex. It remains to be seen whether later Pokemon generations will get more representation, but the large size of Pokemon Pokopia‘s Pokedex is a great sign that the game will be packed with content when it releases.
