No Rest for the Wicked Dev Gives Update on Console Versions

No Rest for the Wicked developer Moon Studios has told console players they have not been forgotten, even though its hit game is still nowhere to be seen on either PlayStation or Xbox. The pledge was offered alongside a new sales update and some other details about No Rest for the Wicked‘s current development status.

No Rest for the Wicked is an isometric action RPG with soulslike combat from Austria-based Moon Studios, best known for creating critically acclaimed metroidvanias Ori and the Will of the Wisps and Ori and the Blind Forest. It was originally released as a Steam early access title on April 18, 2024, receiving praise for its hand-crafted environments, oil-painting-like visuals, and compelling combat, among other qualities.

No Rest for the Wicked Dev Assures Console Players They Haven’t Been Forgotten

In a second-anniversary message shared via Steam, Moon Studios recently assured console players that they have not been forgotten. However, the Austrian developer stopped short of providing any new details on when No Rest For the Wicked is expected to expand beyond PC. The studio also said it was “hard at work” on the 1.0 version of the game and thanked early access players for their support, indicating that their feedback had been instrumental in shaping No Rest for the Wicked‘s early access patch 1 and every update since. The anniversary message also included a commercial update stating that the game’s sales now sit at north of 1.7 million.

Comprehensive console ports had been part of Moon Studios’ plans from the outset. However, that outlook shifted somewhat in July 2025, when the developer indicated No Rest for the Wicked may be skipping Xbox at launch, citing “market conditions” as the main reason for prioritizing the PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2. Elaborating on that point, CEO Thomas Mahler labeled the added technical burden of optimizing simultaneously for the Xbox Series X and the less powerful Series S as a notable resource strain for Moon Studios’ modest workforce of about 80 people.

No Rest for the Wicked already has a page on the PlayStation Store, albeit one without a content rating or pre-order option. Mahler previously said that Moon Studios intends to release the 1.0 build before bringing the game to additional platforms, thereby avoiding the more demanding certification processes of console manufacturers, which tend to be far less accommodating of early access titles than Valve is. The “Together” co-op update, which Mahler identified as a key prerequisite for console readiness, rolled out to Steam players in January 2026.

The road to 1.7 million sales was not without turbulence. In May 2025, No Rest for the Wicked‘s negative Steam reviews put Moon Studios at risk of closure, according to Mahler. The situation stabilized, and the numbers now tell a markedly different story, with the early access RPG boasting “Very Positive” player reviews as of April 2026, based on more than 25,300 user submissions. Commercial momentum also appears to be accelerating; No Rest for the Wicked took 20 months to reach 1 million sales, averaging 50,000 copies a month, before adding another 700,000 over the next four months. That amounts to a 250% increase in its monthly sales rate since the start of 2026.
