Why The Witcher 3’s Zerrikania Would be the Ideal Location for DLC 3

Even over a decade later, The Witcher 3 is still being talked about. CD Projekt Red’s incredibly popular fantasy RPG is still one of the best in the genre, and the new rumor swirling around is that another DLC is on the way. It’s been 11 years since the game first launched, and two expansions have been released since then. However, murmurings of a third, secretive DLC for The Witcher 3 has been making the rounds, and it’s left a lot of fans wondering what it could hold.

Last summer, the first hint at a new Witcher 3 DLC made a lot of fans’ ears perk up. Since then, the possibility of a third expansion has grown increasingly likely. At the end of 2025, an analyst claimed that the expansion could arrive as soon as May 2026. The Witcher 3 was also just recently added to Xbox Games Pass, further stoking the rumors that some kind of announcement was imminent. Of course, this could all be a mixture of false claims and coincidence. However, if CD Projekt Red really is about to reveal a secret DLC, there is a perfect location that it should go to: Zerrikania.

To This Day, Zerrikania is Uncharted Territory For The Witcher Series

Whether it be the games or the books, Zerrikania has not been explored in any of The Witcher stories. This mysterious land has definitely been mentioned plenty of times, but it hasn’t played a central role in the franchise. At least, so far. Zerrikania is a fascinating part of The Witcher‘s lore, and it would be the perfect location for Geralt to travel to in a new DLC. From the way the society is structured to the biomes that it would introduce, Zerrikania is hopefully part of CD Projekt Red’s plans.

Zerrikania is a Strong Matriarchal Society Built on Magic and Fighting Skills

One of the most compelling parts about Zerrikania is that women are the ones who hold the positions of power. Whether it be warriors, priestesses, or community leaders, Zerrikania is all about raising strong, powerful women. Even though men don’t take on the role of warriors, they are still incredibly capable and strong, too. To live in Zerrikania, citizens have to be able to withstand harsh climates and dangerous monsters. Both men and women are heavily tattooed with codes of their society, too. The Witcher 3‘s DLC rumors have even mentioned Zerrikania. A report from IGN Poland claims that the team working on the expansion were once interested in taking Geralt to Zerrikania. Of course, this doesn’t mean that they decided on the location.

If Geralt does travel there, though, he would be coming face to face with one of the strongest societies in the franchise’s lore. Zerrikanians are highly skilled in magic, alchemy, and medicine, but they’re just as capable with swords and archery, specifically mounted archery. A new Witcher 3 chapter with Geralt would definitely be welcome, but a potential Zerrikania setting means that the road there won’t be easy.

Zerrikania Would Be New Territory For The Witcher 3 in More Ways Than One

One reason that Zerrikania hasn’t been officially showcased in The Witcher series is because it’s notoriously difficult to get to. This only adds to the mystery of its society. North of Zerrikania lies the Fiery Mountains, while the southern region is bordered by the Great Korath Desert. Much of the land that surrounds Zerrikania is inhospitable, but there is a canyon that they have been able to thrive in. This canyon is an oasis in a seemingly death-filled area of The Continent. According to lore, it’s filled with lush plant life and a variety of animals, like tigers, ostriches, snakes, jackals, and camels.

Zerrikania sounds like a magical place, but getting there is a different story. This could open the door to a desert biome in The Witcher 3. That alone would be a big addition to the game, but adding a completely new society would take this kind of DLC to the next level. Desert terrain would make traversal its own special kind of challenge, but the creatures of Zerrikania would only make things more harrowing. Yes, there are predators like tigers and jackals, but those are child’s play compared to the region’s worst monsters. Zerrikania is said to be home to basilisks, and worst of all, giant spiders that are capable of trapping elephants in their webs. So, not only would Geralt have to worry about surviving a dry, unforgiving desert, but he’d also have huge spiders to deal with.

Other Facts About Zerrikania Society

  • They are said to worship dragons.
  • Much of the population work as herders
  • Zerrikania is known for its spices and silk.
  • Alchemy is practiced by both men and women

Why The Witcher 3’s Next DLC Probably Doesn’t Take Place in Zerrikania

As cool as a Zerrikania-based DLC would be, this also seems like a stretch. CD Projekt Red has been hard at work on The Witcher 4 and is in the early stages of Cyberpunk 2077‘s sequel. The amount of time it would take to develop not only a new region, but an entire society that hasn’t actually been shown in the series before doesn’t seem possible with the massive games CD Projekt Red has its teams working on. Of course, there is always the chance that the studio completely surprises everyone with a jaw-dropping new DLC filled with a fresh world. After Cyberpunk 2077‘s Phantom Liberty expansion, CD Projekt Red has already shown gamers that it can really knock it out of the park with DLCs.

There’s no way to really know for sure right now. Until CD Projekt Red finally addresses the rumors, everything will simply be speculation. Even if Zerrikania doesn’t make its debut in The Witcher 3, there is still The Witcher 4 to look forward to. The next game primarily takes place in Kovir, but it’s possible that Ciri journeys all the way to Zerrikania. The region could even be used as a location for an eventual Witcher 4 DLC instead of The Witcher 3. It will probably be a while before more Witcher 4 news arrives, but questions about The Witcher 3‘s secret DLC will hopefully be answered soon.
