Deliverance 2 is Getting Multiplayer, But Not in the Way You Would Expect

Deliverance 2 is Getting Multiplayer, But Not in the Way You Would Expect

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is getting multiplayer via a new mod that is now in development. Although this Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 mod is still in early development, the footage so far looks awesome and could really blossom into something special in the future.

Upon its release just over a year ago, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was met with widespread critical acclaim, transporting players back to the Kingdom of Bohemia during the Middle Ages. It is arguably one of the best RPGs in years, and was nominated for the top prize, Game of the Year, at The Game Awards 2025. Unlike many medieval RPGs, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 avoids combining the historic setting with fantasy, instead committing to an authentic portrayal of Bohemia in 1403. The game was a huge step up from its predecessor, which was initially released back in 2018. Crucially, it was an exclusively single-player experience, which some modders are now looking to rectify.

5 Easier Replacement Games if You Want to Play Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 But Think It’s Too Hard

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 can be a little intimidating, so here are some alternate options to explore, perhaps as appetizers.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Multiplayer Mod is Making Big Progress

A recent post on Reddit from user ddesoo has shown off footage of a new Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 mod, which adds multiplayer to the single-player RPG. The gameplay shows one player chasing after another player-controlled Henry, who doesn’t appear to have textures yet. There does appear to be a small amount of lag, but at this point in development of such a complex mod, that is to be expected. It’s pretty clear that mod is still in pretty early stages, but if its full potential can be realized in the future, it could be something special. Crucially, this is not a solo effort. The modder linked the mod’s code on GitHub in the Reddit thread, allowing others to contribute and advancing the project by leaps and bounds.

Almost all the comments were extremely positive about the potential of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 in multiplayer, while some were interested in some of the technical specifics of such a project. For example, one user asked what happens when players leave the same cell as each other, and whether their gameplay would remain persistent in the multiplayer environment. The modder replied by suggesting that the players would be out of sync in this instance, but the plan is to “destroy all entities and stream them from one players world so it will sync correctly and to have it more sandbox.”

Because Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 wasn’t developed with multiplayer in mind, adding a network framework is no small task. In the past, other single-player RPGs have received similar multiplayer mods. Skyrim‘s Skyrim Together is arguably the most successful, but even that took years to reach a state where it was both playable and enjoyable for gamers. With that in mind, gamers shouldn’t expect to be playing a complete version of KCD2‘s multiplayer mod any time soon, but it remains a modding project to keep an eye on.

Last year, Warhorse Studios released official modding tools for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, indicating its support for creators. In just over a year, the number of mods uploaded for the game has already surpassed the original on Nexus Mods, and its modding community looks set to go from strength to strength in years to come. Despite this, it’s likely gamers haven’t yet seen the full potential of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 mods, and it’s great to see a developer like Warhorse Studios recognize the benefits a strong modding community can have for the game’s long-term health.
