4-Player Co-Op Switch 2 Console Exclusive Game Shadow Dropped

Developer Klei Entertainment has just announced that its four-player co-op roguelite Rotwood has officially left early access, and that it’s already available on Nintendo Switch 2. At this time, Rotwood is only available on PC and Nintendo Switch 2, making it a Switch 2 console exclusive, at least for now.

Rotwood‘s Nintendo Switch 2 shadow-drop was announced during the recent Nintendo Indie World Showcase. Over the course of 18 minutes, Nintendo revealed 18 indie games that are heading to its handheld hybrid consoles, including both entirely new experiences and some games that have already received critical acclaim elsewhere. Thrown in the mix alongside the likes of Blue Prince, Denshattack!, Moonlighter 2, and The Midnight Walk, Rotwood stood out for its fluid animations and its frenetic on-screen action.

One of the Most Underrated PS5 Games of 2025 is Coming to Switch 2

A hauntingly gorgeous and highly overlooked PlayStation 5 game from 2025 reveals that it’s making the jump to the Nintendo Switch 2.

Rotwood Is Available Now on Nintendo Switch 2 and PC

Developed by the same studio behind Don’t Starve, Rotwood originally released onto Steam Early Access back in April 2024, following a series of public demos and playstests. While Don’t Starve was a survival crafting horror game, Rotwood is a four-player roguelite side-scrolling beat-em-up with bright cartoon-y visuals. Over the last two years or so, Klei Entertainment has continued to update Rotwood‘s early access build regularly, adding new locations, bosses, enemies, equipment, and new mechanics like farming and cooking. These major updates came alongside a plethora of smaller patches intended to fix technical issues, tweak features, and generally improve stability.

On March 3, 2026, Klei Entertainment surprised its fans with the announcement that Rotwood is officially out on both PC and Nintendo Switch 2, retailing for $29.99 on both the eShop and Steam. In leaving early access, Rotwood has been given one of the biggest updates in the co-op game’s entire history. Cinematics and a proper narrative conclusion have been added to Rotwood, as has a new final boss, a new transmog system, and three new Super Frenzy runs and bosses. Weapons, equipment, progression systems, droprates, and powers have all had their balancing adjusted as well.

Given that Rotwood has only just been released, there’s no official critic score currently available on sites like OpenCritic or Metacritic. Over on Steam, however, Rotwood has a ‘Mostly Positive’ rating based on 7,815 user reviews, though it should be noted that almost all of these come from before Rotwood‘s full launch on March 3.

In terms of future updates and ongoing support, Klei Entertainment stated on Rotwood‘s Steam News page that the developer has learned during early access that its game is best served with “less frequent, more substantial updates,” and that any future content will likely come in the form of “comprehensive and expansive updates to the base game,” or possibly DLC if there’s a desire for some. In the meantime, Klei Entertainment promises to keep a close eye on the game and any player feedback while also delivering any hotfixes and patches that are needed in the coming weeks on both PC and Nintendo Switch 2.

Rotwood wasn’t the only shadow-drop to occur during the recent Nintendo Indie World Showcase. SoulGame Studio’s top-down bullet hell Metroidvania Minishoot’ Adventures was announced and released for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 during the event, as was Blue Prince, the critically acclaimed, 2025 Game Awards-nominated puzzle game from developer Dogubomb and publisher Raw Fury. Demos for Denshattack! and Outbound were also released during the Nintendo Indie World Showcase.
