We’re less than a month from the release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Nintendo still has new details to tease. The company’s revealed another Direct for the movie, this time taking place on March 9, the day before Mario Day.
“Join us on Monday, Mar 9, at 2pm PT for the Nintendo Direct featuring the final trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Please note that no game information will be included in this presentation,” the company announced on Friday. But while there won’t be news about an upcoming 3D Mario, a new poster for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie shows its leaning into the series’ heritage even more with Wart from Super Mario Bros. 2 and frog suits from Super Mario Bros 3.
I can already see the gag where Luigi is trying to run away from something but going super slowly thanks to the franchise’s most cumbersome power-up.
But what I really want to know is if we’ll finally get a look at Wario. A UK theater chain seemingly leaked the Mario-verse villain’s existence in the sequel just a couple of weeks ago. It followed a long line of Mario Galaxy Movie details appearing on cookie dough containers and deodorant bottles before Nintendo officially revealed them.
As with Yoshi before him, the big question is who will be voicing Wario. Will it just be Chris Pratt doing a weird, evil parody of his existing Mario voice? Will we get another Hollywood A-lister to do the character’s iconic catchphrases like “WAHWAHWAH”? I saw somewhere that fans want Danny DeVito to be Wario. That would perfect. He shouldn’t even do a voice. Just be Frank from It’s Always Sunny. I guess we’ll find out next week!
