New Code Vein 2 Update Makes the Soulslike Way Easier

New Code Vein 2 Update Makes the Soulslike Way Easier

Code Vein 2 recently received an update that makes gameplay easier. Developed by Bandai Namco Studios and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, the game is the sequel to the action RPG Code Vein released in 2019. Code Vein 2 was announced during the main show at Summer Game Fest in June 2025, and it premiered at the end of January 2026. Since its launch, the game has received mixed reviews from critics and players, scoring around 60% positive reviews on Steam.

Code Vein 2 is a Soulslike action role-playing title with an anime aesthetic and gameplay inspired by the Dark Souls video game series. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, the game draws on solutions present in the original Code Vein, but expands on them by introducing refined companion characters, advanced customization options, and improved boss battles, both in terms of presentation and difficulty. Gamers also have the option of receiving support from AI-controlled companions during combat, but removing them from the battlefield comes with additional bonuses and skills. However, since the game’s release, some players have criticized its combat system, reporting issues with unfair hitboxes, overly slow player movements, and a significantly higher difficulty level than in the first title in the series.

Fans of Code Vein 2 can now try out an improved and easier combat system. As reported by Bandai Namco Entertainment, players can now download version 1.0.4 & 1.0.5, which brings significant changes to the way battles are played, making them easier and more balanced. After the update, basic player actions such as guarding, dodging, magic spells, and follow-up attacks are faster and more effective. The changes also apply to the bosses in Code Vein 2, which now attack less and are easier to stagger, making them much more forgiving.

Other significant changes introduced with the update include the addition of more resurrection monuments serving as checkpoints, easier to break guards, and shorter invulnerability times for knocked down opponents. However, as announced by the publisher, this is not the end of improvements for this game, as further modifications are already planned for the rest of March. The next update is scheduled to be released in the second half of the month, and it will enhance the combat system characteristic of Soulslike games by reducing the physics strain for enemies and NPCs, as well as reducing the performance hit when enemies spawn. After that, Bandai Namco Entertainment plans to introduce optimization modifications that will minimize the processing load during enemy spawns and eliminate stuttering issues that occur when loading the game in collision, enemies, and NPC paths.

The changes to Code Vein 2 introduced in the latest update clearly make it easier for players to emerge victorious from battle, giving them more freedom to attack and more opportunities to continue progressing even after defeat. While Soulslike games are known for their high difficulty, gamers point out the need to balance the experience appropriately so that challenges can be gradually increased, giving them a sense of satisfaction as they overcome obstacles. Transforming such fundamental aspects of Code Vein 2 a month after its release makes it more approachable for new players who have not had any contact with the combat system in the original Code Vein, and also encourages those who abandoned this title due to excessive difficulty to give it another chance.

At this point, Code Vein 2 seems to be sharing the fate of its predecessor, receiving rather mixed reviews from the gaming community. Shortly after its debut, this third-person role-playing game is facing various technical issues and challenges that the developers are trying to address and fix. However, considering the announcements of upcoming updates that will improve not only the fluidity and difficulty of combat, but also issues related to exploration, movement, and technical details, fans of the series from Bandai Namco Entertainment can expect gradual refinement of Code Vein 2 in the near future.
