Pokemon Pokopia Players Think They Found a Hint for a Major DLC Expansion

Pokemon Pokopia Players Think They Found a Hint for a Major DLC Expansion

Pokemon Pokopia players believe they may have found an in-game hint pointing to the location of a major expansion pack. Pokemon Pokopia is a wildly successful franchise offshoot that largely rhymes with Animal Crossing, except with a Pokemon-themed skin applied on top. In Pokopia, players build Pokemon habitats and explore a variety of islands, and the core gameplay loop is so good that the game found immediate critical acclaim and fan adoration.

In fact, Pokemon Pokopia made Nintendo stock jump 15% with how well it’s been doing since its March 5 release, and it’s the highest-rated Pokemon game on Metacritic, bar none. The game takes place in the series’ iconic Kanto region, albeit a long time after the events of Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver games, and there’s a grand total of five unique biomes/locations for players to explore and repair as their humanoid Ditto protagonist. Adding more regions is obviously an easy way to integrate future DLC, and some believe that’s exactly what’s going to happen.

Gamers won’t want to miss out on these free in-game items for Pokemon Pokopia.

Players Think Pokemon Pokopia Is Getting Sevii Islands DLC

Since virtually every Pokemon fan on Switch 2 is enjoying the strangely quaint post-apocalyptic vision of Kanto found in Pokemon Pokopia, it’s only natural that players would be poring over the game’s written notes with a keen eye. One of these notes has been singled out by Pokemon content creator Light_88 over on Twitter, as it specifically singles out the currently inaccessible Sevii Islands as a hot-spot for rare Pokemon encounters. It’s a hugely tantalizing note, and one that may have been added to the game as a hint for future DLCs. Given that Pokopia is enjoying extremely high ratings, that’s not a big leap of faith for the game’s future at all.

The Sevii Islands originally appeared as Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen‘s post-campaign content, where players went to hunt down the game’s beloved legendary birds: Lugia, Ho-Oh, and Moltres. As such, Sevii is beloved by veteran franchise fans, and would serve as an excellent piece of post-launch content for Pokopia players to explore. Since the game currently has two locked, seemingly totally inaccessible island gates (those being at the north end of Withered Wastelands and on the east side of Sparkling Skylands), it would be easy for Nintendo to keep adding more to it. A MAGA-themed Pokemon Pokopia DLC is seemingly out of the picture, however.

Note that these gates may get opened by a simple event, too, as Nintendo is leveraging FOMO strategies in Pokemon Pokopia. It’s unlikely that an event would be used this way, but not at all impossible. Events that lean on the players’ fear of missing out aren’t anything new for long-time fans of the franchise, nor is it a novel concept for Animal Crossing veterans, but it is something to be aware of. Depending on how strong Pokopia‘s event-based progression structure might be, getting some Pokemon might end up being quite annoying and difficult over a long period of time.

Of course, one must consider the possibility that the in-game magazine referenced by Light_88 may well be simple set dressing for Pokopia‘s setting. There’s no actual confirmation of a Sevii Islands DLC being in production for Pokemon Pokopia at this time, and until Nintendo comes out and says something on the topic, conjecture is all the community has to rely on. For now, it may simply be more productive to focus on optimizing Pokemon Pokopia‘s progression and gameplay loop, and it’s not like the game doesn’t have plenty of content already.
