Pokopia Griefers Are Destroying Cloud Islands

Pokopia Griefers Are Destroying Cloud Islands

At least one group of Pokemon Pokopia griefers is reportedly destroying special structures on other players’ Cloud Islands. Pokemon Pokopia has been a resounding success for Nintendo and The Pokemon Company, with millions of copies sold already, but players may want to take extra steps to ensure their gameplay experience isn’t ruined by outsiders.

The popularity of Pokemon‘s first-ever life sim game is currently listed as the highest-rated game in the franchise’s 30-year history. It’s not just critical success that the game is enjoying, as newly released information from Nintendo reveals that Pokemon Pokopia sold more than 2.2 million copies in its first four days of availability following its global launch on March 5. Controlling a Ditto in human form, players can rebuild a deserted island, making it a suitable habitat for hundreds of different Pokemon, and while it’s mainly geared towards solo play, there are also multiplayer options available.

Pokemon Pokopia Reveals Plans for Future Updates and Game Improvements

Pokemon Pokopia gives players a heads up regarding known issues within the game and provides insight into future plans and game improvements.

Pokemon Pokopia Plays Should Beware of Griefers Visiting Cloud Islands

Cloud Islands in Pokemon Pokopia are persistent online worlds that introduce an opportunity for multiplayer elements to the life sim, allowing players to invite up to three friends for joint play sessions or to open their islands up to anyone. However, some fans are warning that a group of players with ill intentions have been visiting Cloud Islands that have been left open to the public, resulting in damage to special buildings that are very difficult to piece back together. In a video posted to Twitter, one such group can be seen loading Electrodes into cannons and launching them at these structures. Electrode’s purpose in the game is to let players use its special Explode ability to level terrain, clear away unwanted obstacles, and demolish buildings, which is very useful in solo mode but presents a clear danger for those running unrestricted Cloud Islands, especially considering that the game’s autosave features can make any negative changes on Cloud Islands permanent.

The structures that were damaged in the video include the Abandoned Power Plant and the Altar of Flame, buildings that are used to spawn two of the three members of the Legendary Bird Trio from Pokemon‘s first-generation games. These special buildings are constructed through single-use kits that can only be acquired once, and while the explosions generated by the Electrodes don’t technically destroy their individual pieces, rebuilding these structures would mean manually putting all the building parts back into place piece-by-piece. To add insult to injury, the Altar of Fire was also covered in lava, making any potential reconstruction even more difficult.

There is some doubt in the game’s community over whether these videos are legitimate attacks on Cloud Islands, or if they are staged pranks set up by groups of friends, with the victim being in on the joke. This could be a legitimate possibility, as reports of griefers attacking Cloud Islands are not widespread at this point in time. Still, the way that Cloud Islands are set up presents the potential for such attacks, and there is a possibility that some players want to bring an element of Team Rocket-like chaos to Pokemon Pokopia.

Despite any concern that potential griefers may cause, there are some safety precautions that players can use if they want play Pokemon Pokopia online with friends. When creating a Cloud Island, players are able to choose whether they want to open it up to others, and the game includes in-depth options that let them decide whether they want to force other players to enter an island-specific link code before they pay their first visit to any particular Cloud Island. Additionally, there is an option to enable Virtual Mode, which allows other players to visit, but only lets the island’s creator make any lasting changes.
