Now is The Perfect Time to Start Playing Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Whether you hopped off of Pokemon Legends: Z-A or never started your journey in Lumiose City, March 2026 is actually the perfect time to visit the Kalos region for a plethora of reasons. Pokemon Legends: Z-A came out in October 2025, and less than two months after its release, it already got its first (and presumably only) DLC in the form of Mega Dimension, which added a ton of content for players to complete. Even if you don’t love the game’s different battle style, it has become a must-play for Pokemon fans who want to collect a bunch of rare critters or those who like Mega Evolutions.

Recently, Pokemon Legends: Z-A finally got an update regarding its Pokemon Home compatibility, which had been teased before launch and never spoken of thereafter. As confirmed on Pokemon Day, Pokemon Legends: Z-A will allow fans to move critters to and from Home, and also to the upcoming Pokemon Champions. This is a big deal, as there are now more reasons than ever to go through Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s Season 8 Ranked Battles and DLC, especially in preparation for Gen 10 and the future of VGC.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A DLC Getting a Boxed Release

A boxed version of last year’s Mega Dimension DLC for Pokemon Legends: Z-A is coming to store shelves for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

There are many reasons to start or get back to Legends: Z-A in March 2026. Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s free Alpha starters from linking the game to Pokemon Home are a good enough reason already to start playing now or come back if you haven’t finished the base game’s Pokedex.

However, that’s the tip of the iceberg:

  • Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s Pokemon Champions promotion allows you to transfer a Chesnaught, Delphox, Greninja, and Eternal Flower Floette caught in the game to the upcoming battling title, thus unlocking the Mega Stones for these four Pokemon immediately.
  • Speaking of, if you want to get Eternal Flower Floette and Mega Floette in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, the quest to do that takes a long time. You need to first beat the game, then unlock the Infinite Z-A Royale with another mission, then get a Z-A Royale ticket and beat the random opponent 20 times. The process can be quite long and tedious, and if you want to get it done before Pokemon Champions launches, it’s best to get started now.
  • To unlock Mega Stones for Chesnaught, Delphox, and Greninja, you have to play through Ranked Battles. You can get points even if you place last, and these are all early rewards, so it’s a quick grind.
  • Pokemon Champions‘ gameplay will include ways for you to increase a Pokemon’s EVs and IVs with in-game resources, but this is extremely easy and fast to do in Legends: Z-A, so it would be wise to do this for a bunch of Pokemon and then transfer them over when the game launches.

    • Likewise, it’s easy to perfect a Pokemon’s moves with TMs before transferring from Legends: Z-A to Pokemon Home.
  • Pokemon Legends: Z-A new Mega Evolutions from the base game and DLC are over 40, and since they will most likely all become available in Champions at some point, whether on launch or later on, it’s worth grinding for them beforehand.

Why March 2026 is The Best Time to Play Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Mega Zygarde using Nihil Light - Pokemon Legends Z-A

Now that Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s Mega Garchomp Z has come out, all Mega Evolutions are in the game, and there won’t be more added to Ranked Battles online. This means you can get all of them at once and get the rest from playing through the campaign and DLC with no time-gating. On top of that, should you want shiny Pokemon, Mega Dimension’s Donuts offer the perfect way to get them, so you can transfer all these critters to Home and then to Champions or other games if you so wish. For all these reasons, if you haven’t played Pokemon Legends: Z-A yet or completed all the various missions it has, now is the best time to start.
