Starfield Leaked for Yet Another Console

Starfield Leaked for Yet Another Console

Just ahead of its recently announced PlayStation 5 release, another leak has indicated that Starfield will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. Before its 2023 release, Starfield was massively anticipated as Bethesda Game Studios’ first new intellectual property in 25 years. The game saw Bethesda taking its open-world design into the vast reaches of space, with over a thousand planets to explore.

Upon release, Starfield received positive reviews, though it seemed the game didn’t quite live up to the five years of massive anticipation it had built following its announcement at E3 2018. Bethesda continued to support the game with quality-of-life upgrades, and it also received its first major DLC expansion, Shattered Space, though it received some mixed reactions. Still, Bethesda is not done supporting the project, as the publisher has just announced the new Terran Armada DLC, and after years of speculation, has confirmed that Starfield will arrive on PlayStation 5 in April.

Starfield for Switch 2 Rumored to Be in Development

Prominent gaming industry insider NateTheHate has reported that, alongside its recent PlayStation 5 reveal, Starfield may be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 next. This information comes from a Twitter reply to user @PedroKrusch, who, in response to Bethesda’s announcement of Starfield’s Terran Armada DLC, asked NateTheHate if there was any news on the Switch 2 release. NateTheHate responded by saying, “It’s in development, but it hasn’t been a smooth process. Cross fingers and hope for the best.”

If NateTheHate’s report is correct, Starfield would join a stacked roster of Bethesda titles on the Nintendo Switch 2, as the publisher just announced a trio of titles at the latest Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, including Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and the upcoming The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered. This isn’t the first time that the title has seen rumors of a Switch 2 release, as a retailer listing for a Starfield port on Switch 2 popped up last August. Furthermore, Starfield had previously been leaked for the Switch 2 last January alongside other Microsoft titles like Diablo 4 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

Starfield releasing on the Nintendo Switch 2 would be excellent news for the Nintendo console, which continues to receive third-party support the likes of which previous Nintendo systems haven’t seen. Nintendo previously revealed that the Switch 2 featured the largest third-party lineup on a Nintendo platform to date, and excellent titles like Resident Evil Requiem and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth continue to contribute to that growth. Being able to squish a game as big as Starfield down for a portable gameplay experience would be very impressive, and it would give Nintendo fans a new way of sinking several hours into the adventure.

Still, NateTheHate’s comments about the Switch 2 port’s development process will definitely cause some pause among excited players. The Switch 2’s capabilities have impressed third-party developers and publishers, and the system has proven capable of competently running major third-party titles, but given that Starfield’s development process has already had several bumps, scaling the game down for a portable machine is challenging. Here’s hoping Bethesda can figure things out and Switch 2 owners can add Starfield to a growing library of major third-party titles.
