Developer Techland has just announced that Dying Light: The Beast will be receiving a free major update on March 26 titled “Restored Land.” This free update will upgrade Dying Light: The Beast to a new Restored Land Edition, granting all owners the base game, all post-launch DLC, and new Restored Land content that puts a greater emphasis on survival mechanics.
Originally envisioned as a DLC for Dying Light 2 before becoming its own full-fledged entry, Dying Light: The Beast launched on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S last September. Upon its debut, Dying Light: The Beast received a “Strong” critical reception on OpenCritic, with the game receiving a Top Critic Average of 81 and a recommendation rating of 80%. Generally speaking, critics praised Dying Light: The Beast‘s refined parkour mechanics and its brutal zombie-slaying combat, but took issue with its repetitive mission structure and uneven narrative.

Dying Light: The Beast Gets Free Restored Land Edition on March 26
Announced via a behind-the-scenes video hosted on IGN’s YouTube channel, Dying Light: The Beast is getting a new Restored Land Edition on Thursday, March 26. This upgrade will be free for anyone who owns the game. While this update will add a wealth of new features and helpful tweaks to Dying Light: The Beast, it’s the eponymous Restored Land content that will likely turn heads.

The new solo-only Restored Land mode is a more survival-focused, hardcore Dying Light experience. In this mode, any zombies the player kills will not respawn, and clearing out an area of infected will see it return to its pre-apocalyptic state, with human inhabitants returning to the zone. The catch, however, is that loot doesn’t respawn either. Supplies in general are much more scarce than in Dying Light: The Beast‘s base game experience, and shops feature reduced stock and higher prices. Survival mechanics like hunger have also been “intensified,” forcing players to scavenge for food and other supplies in order to avoid penalties. In this mode, side activities such as Convoys, Dark Zones, and Heists cannot be replayed.
To go with this new mode, Dying Light: The Beast – Restored Land Edition is adding an optional “One Life” feature that will see a player’s entire save erased upon death. Beating the game with this One Life feature activated will award players unique items. New car challenges titled “Roadkill Rallies” are also being added on March 26. These challenges task players with mowing down as many zombies as possible during a checkpoint race. Additionally, Dying Light: The Beast‘s free Restored Land update will bring new finishers, new achievements, new quest encounters, and currently unspecified gameplay improvements.
