P.I. For Hire Reaches Major Sales Milestone

PlaySide Studios, the publisher behind Mouse: P.I. For Hire, has just confirmed that the black-and-white first-person shooter has sold approximately 730,000 units since its April 16 launch. According to PlaySide, Mouse: P.I. For Hire has sold enough to recoup the costs of its development and marketing.

Mouse: P.I. For Hire received a strong critical reception upon its PC, PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S launch last month. On OpenCritic, Mouse: P.I. For Hire holds a Top Critic Average of 81 and a critic recommendation score of 88%. GameRant’s own Joshua Duckworth gave Mouse: P.I. For Hire an 8/10, stating that the game “oozes charm in every detail” and that combat is fun, but that its “FPS trappings” hurt the game during its later hours.

On May 11, PlaySide Studios issued a press release regarding the “continued strong performance” of Mouse: P.I. For Hire. The key highlights of the press release open with the confirmation that Mouse: P.I. For Hire has sold approximately 730,000 units across all platforms since its April 16 launch. According to publisher PlaySide, console sales are responsible for 50% of the game’s total sold units, with it retaining “significant visibility on console storefronts.”

These 730,000 units sold reportedly translate to a total estimated gross sales figure of $21.4 million (US). The total revenue generated since launch (once platform fees and VAT have been deducted) is said to be approximately $13 million (US). In this latest press release, PlaySide confirmed that this revenue has been enough to pay back PlaySide’s milestone payments and the publishing and marketing costs of the game, meaning that all expenses have now been recouped.

With the continued strong sales of Mouse: P.I. For Hire, PlaySide has announced an “upgrade” to its revenue guidance for 2026. PlaySide now expects its fiscal year 2026 revenue to be in the range of $50 million to $53 million (Australian). PlaySide directly states that this higher revenue expectation “primarily reflects stronger-than-expected unit sales” for Mouse: P.I. For Hire across PC and consoles, which have been achieved “despite the delayed launch of the title.”

PlaySide Studios CEO Benn Skender had this to say about Mouse: P.I. For Hire‘s commercial performance and the greater expectations now placed on the company’s earnings for 2026:

“The continued performance of MOUSE: P.I. For Hire has been really pleasing and reflects the strength of the IP, the quality and persistence of effort from all teams, and the depth of player and social engagement we are seeing across every platform. The upgrade to FY26 revenue guidance reflects both the title’s launch trajectory and our confidence in its ongoing commercial performance. We remain focused on supporting the title across its full lifecycle while continuing to execute against our broader publishing and development pipeline for Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, the Dumb Ways franchise and Dew.”

On top of sales figures, PlaySide’s recent press release highlights the number of wishlists Mouse: P.I. For Hire has received over the last month or so. At launch, Mouse: P.I. For Hire reportedly had 1.73 million wishlists across all platforms. That number has since grown to 3 million. PlaySide believes this will provide a “continued strong pipeline for ongoing conversion.” PlaySide also states that Mouse: P.I. For Hire holds a ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam and that it continues to maintain “near-perfect scores” on both the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Marketplace.
