Super Mario Galaxy Movie Post-Credits Scenes, Explained

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is out today, and if you’re heading to the theater to see it, you’re probably wondering if there are post-credits scenes to stick around for.

It turns out there are two scenes, though one is a bit more impactful than the other. If you want to go in unspoiled, you have your answer. Finish up whatever’s left of your popcorn and watch the scenes unfold. If you’re looking to find out what the movie reveals in those post-credits scenes, read on.

The first scene is a bit of a nothingburger. Fox McCloud is shown flying away from a prison housing Bowser and his son Bowser Jr. A Luma is shown guarding the father/son duo and giving them shit. It very much feels like a callback to the first movie’s post-credits scene which showed Bowser in his tiny prison. Maybe this will just be the tradition for these movies moving forward, showing Bowser or whatever villain locked up for their crimes.

The second post-credits scene is a little bit juicier. In it, we see none other than Princess Daisy stepping in to stop a con artist Ukiki from stealing someone’s bag in the Gateway Galaxy. So it looks like we’ll be seeing the princess of Sarasaland in the next Mario movie after Galaxy inevitably makes another billion dollars. Daisy debuted in 1989’s Super Mario Land, and has since become one of the series’ most prominent side game characters, appearing in multiple sports, Party, and Kart games over the years. She doesn’t speak in the scene, so we’ll likely have to wait a couple of years before we find out who her voice actor will be in the movies.

After the Fox McCloud announcement, a lot of folks were probably expecting the post-credits scene to include a new Nintendo character and possibly lead into a much bigger Super Smash Bros. crossover down the line. However, it doesn’t sound like Nintendo and Illumination are looking to make that jump just yet, despite introducing Fox, Pikmin, and R.O.B. in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. So definitely keep your expectations in check if you’re hoping for clues to the next big cinematic crossover event.
