With Marvel Rivals‘ seventh season still ongoing, the game has already teased its next playable character for Season 8. The teaser comes as Marvel Rivals rolls out its major patch update, which includes a new map and a number of quality-of-life optimizations and bug fixes.
The story of Marvel Rivals‘ current season, titled “The Hunt Is On,” follows the superheroes as they try to stop the Alchemax Corporation from taking over Lower Manhattan in New York. The featured characters in the lore are Black Cat and White Fox, who were both also introduced as playable Marvel Rivals units in Season 7. Additionally, in a minute-long video on social media, the game revealed that it’s adding a Lower Manhattan map, featuring references to Wilson Fisk, the Alchemax building, and even a Jeff the Shark statue.

Marvel Rivals Hints at Supervillain as the Newest Character
Towards the end of the Lower Manhattan map showcase, a red hood floating inside a glass case was shown for a few seconds, which could mean that this was an important teaser for a future character. This is an obvious reference to The Hood, a supervillain who is well-known in New York’s criminal underworld. With Marvel Rivals‘ current story set in Lower Manhattan, it’s possible that The Hood might be one of the new characters that will launch in Season 8.
- Marvel Rivals Season 8 expected release date: May 15, 2026
Many Marvel Rivals fans have caught on to the Hood teaser, saying that they hope to see him either in the next season update or the following one. Some are also hoping to see the Ghost Rider version of The Hood in the game. Marvel Rivals often references many Marvel heroes and villains in its lore and with elements around the game, just like what it did before revealing Phoenix as a playable character. So, it’s just a matter of waiting for an official release date for The Hood in a future update.
Who is Marvel’s The Hood?
The Hood, also known as Parker Robbins, started out as a lowly criminal in New York. After robbing a Nisanti demon of its red hood and boots, he gained superhuman abilities, using it to commit more crimes and form his own syndicate to become the new Kingpin of New York City. In the comics, The Hood has crossed paths with the likes Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Green Goblin. Meanwhile, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), The Hood has shown up in the Disney+ miniseries Ironheart, and there’s still a possibility that he might show up again in future films or shows.

As a potential Marvel Rivals character, The Hood could be a great Duelist character who is skilled at gun shooting and can move around the map fast. He is known for having levitation powers, which he uses to attack foes quickly and stealthily. This could also be helpful in Marvel Rivals‘ battlefield, as his movements could be similar to a gunman like Star Lord or a magic user like Scarlet Witch. Although there have been qualms among Marvel Rivals players about the number of Duelists in the game, The Hood could still be a welcome addition to the roster if he has the right kit.
