Super Battle Golf Update Gives You A Rocket Driver To Ramp Up The Chaos

Super Battle Golf Update Gives You A Rocket Driver To Ramp Up The Chaos

Super Battle Golf, the chaotic arcade-style golf game where everyone plays at the same time, is getting a new update on April 9 that adds new holes, a new game mechanic, and more items to dial up the mayhem even further.

The Frozen Fairway update adds the snow biome, featuring nine new holes set in chilly locations. The holes are themed around winter, so players can expect icy terrain and slippery conditions to make hitting the golf ball more challenging. Additionally, nine more holes are being added to existing maps.

In terms of new mechanics, the Frozen Fairway update introduces wind to the mix. Like in real life, players will need to change their strategies based on wind speed and direction. There are two new items in the update that players can use to save themselves or sabotage others, including the Rocket Driver and the Freeze Bomb.

The Rocket Driver is a single-use item that allows players to charge a swing up to 200% power, but players need to time it correctly or they risk propelling themselves forward instead of the ball. The Freeze Bomb, meanwhile, fires a block of ice that freezes players temporarily. Players can also aim the bomb at a body of water to freeze it, thereby allowing them to get across.

On top of all this, the Frozen Fairway update introduces new outfits and customization options, along with a range of quality-of-life improvements, including a new chat layout, vote-kicking, and multiplayer improvements.

For anyone just catching up, Super Battle Golf uproots the game of golf from a quiet, peaceful experience in nature to a chaotic clash like something out of Happy Gilmore. Matches support 1-8 players at a game, and everyone plays simultaneously. There is no taking taking turns or waiting. Players instead race as fast as possible to get to the hole while battling the other players with a range of offensive and defensive items to help.

The timing of the Super Battle Golf Frozen Fairway update probably isn’t random, as the highest-profile professional golf event of the year, The Masters, starts on April 9, the same day as the update arrives.

The game is available now on Steam for $5.60, a 30%-off deal that’s good through April 14. There is no word yet on a possible console release, but the game is proving popular, having passed 1 million copies sold since it launched in February. It’s developed by Brimstone and published by Oro Interactive.
