Starfield on PS5 will have a few unique features that take advantage of the DualSense Controller, such as adaptive triggers and Touch Pad menu navigation. Additionally, playing Starfield on a PS5 Pro will give players access to Pro Visual and Pro Performance graphics settings that take advantage of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling.
The PS5 port of Starfield goes live on Tuesday, April 7, alongside the game’s Terran Armada expansion and Free Lanes content update. The Free Lanes update will be available to all Starfield players, and will not require the Terran Armada DLC. Despite nearly three years of Xbox console exclusivity, PS5 players wasted no time pre-ordering Starfield on the PlayStation Store. Starfield quickly rose to the top five of the PlayStation Store charts, only trailing the open-world RPG Crimson Desert.
Starfield Leaked for Yet Another Console
In the wake of its long-awaited PlayStation 5 announcement, Bethesda’s Starfield faces further rumors of a release on another platform.
Starfield Has Some Nifty Features For PS5 Players To Use
Once Starfield arrives on PS5 starting April 7, PS5 players will have some exclusive options to consider. The adaptive triggers of the PS5’s DualSense Controller can be used to add some resistance when shooting a firearm, and the light bar on the DualSense Controller will change colors as players gain or lose health. For example, the light bar will turn red when the player runs low on health, but will return to its default state upon restoring HP. Additionally, the touchpad can be used for quick menu access, such as clicking the left side of the touchpad to access the mission log. The DualSense Controller’s speaker can also be used to play back voice logs, which should add some immersion to the gameplay experience. It is currently unclear if these DualSense Controller features will make their way to the Steam version of Starfield.
Starfield will also offer some graphical options for PS5 and PS5 Pro players to consider. The PS5 Pro will have exclusive access to Pro Visual and Pro Performance graphics modes, with both relying on PSSR upscaling to deliver the visuals that players want. Pro Visual Mode will output Starfield at a 4K resolution with a target frame rate of 30 frames per second (FPS). By comparison, Pro Performance Mode will aim for 60 FPS. Both Pro Visual Mode and Pro Performance Mode will utilize PSSR upscaling on the PS5 Pro. However, base PS5 users should still have the same graphics options as the Xbox Series X/S versions of Starfield, such as options to change the frame rate to 40 FPS or 60 FPS. It remains to be seen what specific graphics settings base PS5 users will have compared to the PS5 Pro and the Xbox Series X/S.
Starfield on PS5 Is Long Overdue
Porting Starfield to the PS5 is something that has been on Bethesda’s to-do list for quite some time, according to game director Todd Howard. Howard said during a March interview that Bethesda maintained a great relationship with PlayStation, and said that Starfield‘s arrival on PS5 was just a matter of time. With other Bethesda titles like Fallout 76 and Skyrim also on PS5, Starfield’s port is just one part of Bethesda’s continued support for the PlayStation platform.
Fit the 9 games into the grid.
Between the PS5 port, the Free Lanes update, and the arrival of the Terran Armada DLC, April 7 will be a good day for lapsed Starfield players to pick up the game again. Time will tell how successful Starfield will be on PS5.
