Fan Catches First Glimpse Of Alex Garland’s Elden Ring Movie

Fan Catches First Glimpse Of Alex Garland’s Elden Ring Movie

Footage from the set of Alex Garland’s upcoming Elden Ring movie has made its way online, after a content creator happened to spot the set just somewhere in a random English field. While the legitimacy of the footage has been called into question, which is fair enough in the age of AI-generated slop, Kotaku has been able to speak to the original uploader of the clip and track down another video of the set.

Announced back in May 2025, the Elden Ring movie was approved by Hidetaka Miyazaki himself, after director Alex Garland flew to Japan and presented him with a 160-page draft of his vision. Since then, we’ve not actually heard too much about the project, beyond a few casting announcements (including Ben Whishaw and Cailee Spaeny, who have been cast in undisclosed roles).

While it was previously stated that production company A24 intended to start filming in 2026, there was no exact announcement regarding the start of the film’s principal photography. However, based on the video provided by Elden Ring streamer THROX on TikTok, we can probably expect an announcement on that front relatively soon.

Kotaku reached out to THROX to ask them a few questions about their discovery, and they confirmed that the set they stumbled upon is somewhere in England. THROX also stated that they didn’t simply discover it by chance, as a friend of his was actually the first to spot the set and passed the information on to them.

THROX also had one more picture and another video of the set on their Discord, and stated that they took several more videos of different locations on the set, which they intend to upload at a later date, including one that features “some barrels and some like wooden carriages from the game.” THROX has since uploaded one of these new videos, embedded below.

I’ve done a little digging to see if I could line up the Church of Marika in THROX’s video with a specific Church of Marika in Elden Ring, and none of them line up exactly. However, the Elden Ring film has been rumored to be a prequel of sorts, so with that in mind, I think it might end up being the Second Church of Marika, but in a slightly less dilapidated state.

Or, hey, it could be a fifth Church of Marika that was never featured in the game. Either way, I think the area itself in THROX’s videos looks a lot like Limgrave. Smart of the production company to save on VFX costs by shooting the film in England, because now they won’t have to alter the weather in post to make things look dark and miserable.
