The pirate game Windrose is off to a great start, as the game has sold 1 million copies and reached more than 220,000 peak concurrent users on Steam alone, the developer announced.
The early access game’s all-time high for peak concurrent users on Steam was 222,134, and that record was achieved on Sunday, April 19. The game is also available on the Epic Games Store and Stove, so the Steam audience represents just a piece of the game’s total audience.
Windrose is the No. 1 best-selling game on Steam in the US right now and ranks No. 2 globally.
Windrose is not available on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, but that could change. Developer Kraken Express said the team is focused on getting the game to 1.0 before it may come to console later on.
If the game looks like it’s inspired by Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, that’s no surprise, as the developers have said Ubisoft’s beloved pirate game is the “best pirate game of all time” and an inspiration for Windrose.
Windrose is a survival adventure game that takes place in an alternative version of the Age of Piracy that focuses on three main gameplay areas: building, crafting, and surviving. The game is playable solo offline or in co-op with others, featuring both self-hosted and dedicated servers. As it so happens, Ubisoft is working on a remake/remaster of Black Flag, called Resynced, and it could be shown off very soon and released in July.
