It’s worth noting that such outages are rare and oftentimes incredibly short. Facebook went down recently and, for a pretty severe outage, was resolved within a handful of hours. Of course, this is the internet and anything can happen. Facebook is currently okay, but as of this writing, Twitter is down right now, with no official word on when it will be fixed.
