Death Stranding 2 Players Walked Farther Than the Artemis 2 Mission Traveled

Death Stranding 2 Players Walked Farther Than the Artemis 2 Mission Traveled

Kojima Productions is having some cheeky fun with its player stats by revealing that Death Stranding 2 players have covered more miles than the astronauts who were part of NASA’s recent Artemis 2 mission. Death Stranding 2 is all about the journey, and a lot of players have definitely taken that message to heart.

Death Stranding 2 brought forth the second chapter of Hideo Kojima’s wild post-apocalyptic vision, and Sam’s journey was even wackier and more heartfelt this time around. Ever since Kojima parted ways with Konami and created his own independent studio, he’s been able to dive even deeper into his more outside-the-box ideas. Whether it’s Hideo Kojima’s views on AI or his love for putting surprising dance numbers in Death Stranding‘s serious world, he and the team at Kojima Productions have continued to subvert expectations. This time, Kojima Productions is taking the opportunity to flex on NASA.

How Death Stranding 2 Doubles as Hideo Kojima’s Love Letter to Pop Culture

Hideo Kojima is an avid pop culture lover, and Death Stranding 2 doubles as a stage for him to celebrate his favorite pieces of media.

Kojima Productions Reveals That Death Stranding 2 Players Traveled a Longer Distance Than the Artemis 2 Mission

Kojima Productions took to Twitter to showcase some interesting player data that revealed Death Stranding 2 protagonist Sam walked over 250,000 more miles than the Artemis 2 crew. This data was collected between April 1 and April 10, the same nine-day span of the historic NASA mission. While the Artemis 2 crew’s journey to travel around the moon required them to hit a record 700,237 miles, Death Stranding 2 players racked up a whopping 969,703 miles in the same amount of time.

Now that Death Stranding 2 on PC is a reality, the game has reached even more players, which has more than likely contributed to Sam’s impressive mileage. Kojima Productions celebrated the sequel’s one-month PC anniversary in the same tweet, embracing the new player base. The Twitter post also made sure to highlight how important the NASA Artemis 2 crew is for the continuation of space exploration. Death Stranding 2 is about Sam’s hardest and longest journey yet, and Kojima Productions couldn’t help but take advantage of the parallels between its story and the NASA mission.

When Kojima Productions launched its first game back in 2019, some of the main criticisms of the game claimed that Death Stranding is a walking simulator. However, it turns out that all that walking hasn’t deterred gamers. 969,703 miles is a lot of walking, even if it is in a game. Not only do these miles surpass the Artemis 2 crew, but they also show just how many players have been enjoying roaming the world as Sam.

The Artemis 2 moon fly-by is clearly the more impressive accomplishment of the two, but Kojima Productions has found a really fun way to celebrate both its Death Stranding 2 players and NASA’s most recent feat. Death Stranding 2 and its predecessor may be seen as walking simulator games by some, but the sheer amount of ground that players have managed to cover within a small nine-day period demonstrates that Kojima’s series is incredibly successful at inspiring players to explore its unique world.
