A Bloodborne Remake from Bluepoint Almost Happened, But FromSoftware Reportedly Said No

A Bloodborne Remake from Bluepoint Almost Happened, But FromSoftware Reportedly Said No

According to a new report from Bloomberg, Bluepoint Games pitched a Bloodborne remake, but FromSoftware ultimately said no. Bloodborne is one of the highest-rated games of all time and widely considered one of the best games ever released for the PlayStation 4. Backward compatibility makes it playable on PS5 consoles, but otherwise, Bloodborne is effectively trapped on PS4, despite being a commercial and critical success.

With all kinds of PlayStation-published games making the jump to PlayStation 5 and other platforms over the years, there have been many calls for Bloodborne to get the same treatment. As one of the only FromSoftware games not on PC, PC gamers in particular have been asking for a Bloodborne port. PS5 gamers have been hoping to see a Bloodborne remaster, and rumors have circulated over the years that such a project has at least been considered. As it so happens, Bluepoint Games apparently pitched a Bloodborne remake of its own, only for it to get rejected by FromSoftware.

8 Scariest Monsters In Bloodborne, Ranked

Bloodborne has no shortage of horrible monsters and intimidating bosses, but the following are unparalleled in terms of fear factor.

Bloodborne Remake Was Pitched by Bluepoint

A new report by Bloomberg covers Sony’s recent decision to shut down Bluepoint Games. In the report, it’s stated that Bluepoint actually pitched a Bloodborne remake, and while Sony was apparently on board with the project, “FromSoftware didn’t want it to happen.” The same Bloomberg report points to Kinda Funny’s interview with Shuhei Yoshida, where the former PlayStation exec theorized that Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki may be interested in doing a remake of the game himself, but is too busy with other proejcts and doesn’t want anyone else to touch it.

Miyazaki is the acclaimed director behind Bloodborne, Dark Souls, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Elden Ring, and various other FromSoftware titles. Currently, Miyazaki is leading development on a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive game called The Duskbloods that definitely shares some of Bloodborne‘s DNA. The Duskbloods employs a similar gothic horror art style, but has a focus on multiplayer that Bloodborne does not.

The Bloomberg report goes on to name other projects that Bluepoint attempted to pitch to Sony after its live-service God of War project was canceled. With the Bloodborne remake pitch rejected, Bluepoint attempted to pitch a PS5 version of Shadow of the Colossus and a Ghost of Tsushima spin-off, both to no avail. Eventually, Bluepoint Games was shut down.

Bloodborne fans dying for a remake of the classic game will no doubt be disappointed by this news, as will any fans of Bluepoint’s work that wanted to see the studio continue to put out games. After all, Bluepoint has remade FromSoftware titles in the past, with the Demon’s Souls remake serving as a visually stunning launch title for Sony’s PlayStation 5.

If Miyazaki actually does want to do a Bloodborne remake himself, though, perhaps there is still hope that the game will make a comeback at some point down the line. Miyazaki is currently busy with The Duskbloods, but we have no idea what project he will tackle next. It’s possible that Miyazaki will do a Bloodborne remake next, or maybe he will work on a completely original IP. Whatever the case may be, it will be interesting to see what’s next from FromSoftware.
