Acclaimed PS5 RPG Developer Falcom Will Reveal Its Next Game This Month

Falcom, the developer behind the remake of 2025’s Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, has announced that it will be revealing its next game in February 2026. First released on September 19, 2025, Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter is currently available on the PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The popular RPG made plenty of waves upon its initial release, becoming one of the highest rated titles on the PS5 in 2025. After such a big success, many fans are wondering what Falcom has planned for the future. Fortunately, players won’t have to wait too long to find out more information.

While there’s a lot of mystery surrounding Falcom’s unannounced upcoming project, the developer recently revealed that it will be releasing Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter in 2026. Many fans expressed excitement about the upcoming title, as they’re hoping Falcom will be able to recreate the success of Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter. Upon its debut, the popular remake dazzled fans with enhanced visuals and impressive voice acting, breathing new life into the beloved JRPG. Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter is currently sitting at a 90 on OpenCritic, making it one of the highest rated titles of 2025, standing alongside other industry giants like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Hades 2, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.

Rumor: PlayStation State of Play Coming in February

A new rumor points to Sony hosting a new State of Play livestream event for PlayStation in February, likely revealing new details about 2026 titles.

As reported by Gematsu, Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo has stated that the company will be making a big announcement in February to reveal its next game. In a recent interview at Taipei Game Show 2026, Kondo confirmed that Falcom will be releasing two new titles in 2026. While the first title will be the sequel to Falcom’s runaway hit Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, the developer hasn’t revealed anything about the second title just yet. Kondo acknowledged that Falcom hasn’t released two new titles in the same year in quite some time, but he also expressed confidence about the company’s ambitious goal.

According to Kondo, both Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter and the unannounced title are at a point in development where Falcom feels certain that it can deliver both games in 2026. While there’s no way of knowing what Falcom has planned, some fans are hopeful that this new project could become one of the most anticipated games of 2026. It’s worth noting that 2026 marks the 45th anniversary of Falcom as a company, which means the developer could be looking to make a big splash as a way of celebrating. Regardless, it seems as if fans won’t have to wait long to get their hands on some new information, as Kondo has confirmed that the big announcement will happen this month.

Of course, some fans are already wondering when the unannounced title will be released, as it’s expected that Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter will make its debut in the fall. While it’s still only February, 2026’s video game calendar is already full of heavy hitters like Grand Theft Auto 6, Marvel’s Wolverine, Saros, Resident Evil Requiem, and many more. Of course, it’s always possible that the landscape could change in the coming months, as games regularly experience delays during development. With Grand Theft Auto 6 scheduled to release on November 19, 2026, many fans have expressed concerns about even a minor delay, as such a hiccup could push the highly anticipated title into 2027. Regardless of what happens with other developers, Falcom seems confident about releasing both of its upcoming titles in 2026, which could be great news for RPG fans eager to get their hands on something fresh.
