Grounded 2: Into the Abyss update adds more than a massive new area to explore, with new armor giving players additional ways to prepare for the dangers of Brookhollow Park. The update expands the pond and its underwater depths, introducing gear designed around aquatic exploration as well as powerful equipment tied to some of the new threats lurking throughout the park.
This guide covers all the new armor sets in Grounded 2: Into the Abyss, including the Koi Scale Armor and Bark Scorpion Armor. Here, you’ll find out how each set works, where its materials come from, and what bonuses it provides, making it easier to decide which new armor is worth adding to your build.
Striped Scorpion Armor Set
The Striped Bark Scorpion Armor set is the new Tier 4 Rogue Armor set in Grounded 2, fabricated out of parts of the new Striped Bark Scorpions that prowl the Gnarly Bark Area of Brookhollow Park. These dangerous creatures are a tough nail to bite, but you will need to defeat them if you want to get your hands on this new light armor set.
The set in question has the Rogue Armor Perk (increased critical hit chance in the final attack of a 3-hit combo) and the Venom Parry Perk, which inflicts poison damage on foes when performing a perfect block. Plus, the full set bonus, Finale Force, which makes the final hit of the 3-hit combo stronger, and stacks five times until you are hit with an attack (which resets the effect). Quite good resistance and defense for a light armor set, so it’s worth having it if you are working on those nimble builds that use slashers and daggers.
Toe Biter Armor Set
The Toe Biter Armor set is made out of Toe Biter parts, which, in case you haven’t found the Toe Biter Buggy yet, can be farmed in various places around Skunk Pond and Gnarly Bark. This Fighter Armor set is ideal for single sword and needle (Rapider) users, and comes with its own unique perks.
Fighter Armor, which causes the final hit on a 3-hit melee combo to deal additional stun damage, and Opportunistic Parry, a Perk that causes perfect parries to have a chance to boost the damage of your next melee attack. Its Barmy Buccaneer full set bonus provides a stacking sword damage increase (up to three stacks) as long as you aren’t hit or the combat ends. A powerful perk, and the Pirate Design is quite awesome too.
Diving Suit Armor Set
The Diving Suit Armor set is a specialized set that allows players to walk and jump underwater, though it impairs swimming in turn. This set is perfect to use alongside the Toe Bitter Buggy to explore the depths of Skunk Pond unhindered. Plus, it will also help you collect Koi Fish Scales needed to craft the Koi Fish Scale Armor, alongside all the new resources in the pond (Phantom Quartz, Eelgrass Stem, etc.)
Its set bonus (Under Pressure) is composed of 3 perks: Chill Reduction, which reduces Water Chill Buildup by 75%, Master Diver, which provides oxygen for a very long duration and this is turned into infinite oxygen with a full set equipped, Diving Ballast, which sinks you to the bottom of the pond, countering buoyancy and allowing you to explore the bottom of the pond, plus adding limited jumping.
Koi Fish Scale Armor Set
Built out of Koi Fish Scales, this set provides a ton of swimming speed, plus Water Chill Resistance. Ideal for those who are ready to take on the challenges of Skunk Pond as professional scuba divers. Pairs nicely with the new Harpoon Gun, the only ranged weapon that can be used underwater.
Its set bonuses include the Veteran Diver perk, which increases the size of the oxygen bar, Major Swim Speed, the best buff for swimming in Grounded 2, and Water Chill Reduction (up to 50%). Then, its full set bonus is Bubble Struggle, which causes melee attacks on enemies to release air bubbles, which restore the oxygen bar. Quite useful for underwater combat.
Swimming Suit
This is not a set, but the basic Swimming Gear players will need for underwater exploration. The Gill Tube, crafted using Wax, Eelgrass Strand, and Silk, which allows for basic Sub Aquatic respiration (collecting air bubbles to replenish Oxygen), and the Fin Flops, crafted using Water Boatman Fin, Eelgrass Strand, and Wax, which increases swimming speed by a minimum.
These two items combined don’t provide a full set bonus, but are required for players starting their adventure in Grounded 2: Into The Abyss, as without these two basic armor pieces plus the Omni Cutter, you won’t be able to farm the resources needed for the rest of the armor sets.
Shell Shocker Armor Set
The Shell Shocker is another Fighter Armor set, and it’s an improved version of the Snail Shell set, and comes with some interesting perks that can help you cause Shock Damage to your foes. Besides the Fighter Armor Bonus, which causes the final hit on a 3-hit melee combo to deal additional stun to enemies, it has the Parry Shock Perk, which releases a shock burst when you do a Perfect Parry.
Plus, the full armor set bonus is Power Surge, which empowers the Parry Shock Perk even more, granting stacks of the Power Surge buff, which increases the chances of releasing a powerful Shock AoE on a Perfect Parry. These charges are reset when the effect activates, or when exiting combat.
Tinfoil Hat
Although this is not an Armor Set, but only a new armor piece included with the Into The Abyss expansion in Grounded 2, it is one of the most interesting pieces of gear you can craft in the DLC. Its unique Incognito Perk helps players to mess up with all of the Stranger’s Mix.Rs without drawing aggro.
This will prevent her from noticing who is the one destroying her gear, thus avoiding Base Raids, which are quite troublesome to deal with. But take into consideration that the Tinfoil Hat works only as long as you have it equipped. If you attack any of the ORK bugs protecting the Mix.Rs without using the Hat, you will still draw the aggro from the Stranger and your base will be Raided.
