The next chapter in Cal Kestis’ Star Wars journey, tentatively referred to as Star Wars Jedi 3 by most fans, is in the works. This much has been confirmed for years, and the existence of the project was reaffirmed in 2025 following numerous cancelations and layoffs at EA studios. There are still a lot of questions swirling about the upcoming game—doubly so following the departure of series’ director Stig Asmussen—but we at least know it exists.
Considering how well-received Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was (woeful PC launch aside), it’s no surprise that EA would want to continue building the franchise. There’s been a lot of speculation about what this third entry could look like, and if and how it will tie into mainline Star Wars lore. Indeed, Survivor’s finale leaves a lot up in the air, and there’s still plenty of room for iconic characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka Tano to make an appearance in the game series. For right now, most of what fans have is speculation, since Jedi 3 has yet to be officially revealed, but there are some rumors and possible leaks about the threequel that are worth discussing regardless.
Idle Sloth Unleashed a Torrent of Star Wars Jedi 3 Leaks in January 2026
Twitter user Idle Sloth, whose track record includes correct leaks about Halo Infinite’s release date and Xbox announcements, recently issued a series of claims about Jedi 3 on Twitter:
- Star Wars Jedi 3 will “potentially” release in the first half of 2026.
- The game will be significantly larger and more visually diverse, with a greater focus on traversal and environmental storytelling.
- It will feature “expansive galactic hubs” more than linear levels.
- The tone will be notably darker and more mature.
- The primary antagonist will be tied to a new faction with a philosophy about the Force that differs from the Empire’s.
- New Force powers, including perception-altering abilities and “environment manipulation.”
- Adaptive enemy AI that adopts new strategies based on the player’s combat approach.
- Respawn has taken feedback from Star Wars Jedi: Survivor into account while developing Jedi 3.
A lot of these points sound promising, and also like pretty safe bets. For instance, it’s not really much of a stretch to say that Star Wars Jedi 3 will be larger than its predecessor, as this is usually par for the course with sequels to adventure games. Similarly, the claim about more open-ended level design correlates with Survivor’s shift away from linearity, and the addition of new Force powers is basically a given as well.

The most controversial part of this Idle Sloth post, however, is the claim about Jedi 3 launching in the first half of 2026. We are already nearly 25% of the way through the year, and we haven’t seen so much as a teaser trailer for the next Jedi game, so this seems quite unlikely. Of course, Idle Sloth’s own post refers to this release window as “potential,” so it seems like the leaker is hedging their bets a little with this claim. That doesn’t mean that we should totally rule a 2026 release out, though.
A 2026 Release Date for Star Wars Jedi 3 Is Corroborated by the Kinda Funny Gamescast
About a week and a half before Idle Sloth made their claim about Jedi 3 launching in 2026, Tim Getty of the Kinda Funny Gamescast said, “I can see [Jedi 3] being announced in May and coming out in September.” This was presented as speculative, which was the general tone of the episode’s conversation, but when Getty’s proposed timeline was questioned, he said, “I’ve heard some things,” suggesting that he may have some insider knowledge about the game’s release window.
This isn’t a ludicrous theory, considering the Kinda Funny crew is well-embedded in the industry at this point. However, it should be noted that Getty has since retracted his statements, denying that he made any such claims about Jedi 3 launching in 2026. It’s unclear what exactly he means by this, since it’s obvious that he was making some sort of claim about Jedi 3 in the podcast. Perhaps he is suggesting that his words are being misinterpreted, although he hasn’t offered an alternate explanation at this time.
Will Star Wars Jedi 3 Be the Final Game in the Series?
This isn’t exactly a leak, but comments made by various individuals associated with the Star Wars Jedi franchise, and Respawn itself, have caused some confusion regarding Jedi 3’s place in the broader timeline. Jedi director Stig Asmussen, who left Respawn following the release of Jedi: Survivor, said in a 2023 IGN interview that he always envisioned Cal Kestis’ journey as a trilogy, even during the development of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. This tracks with statements made by EA President Laura Miele in 2024, which label Jedi 3 as the final game in the series.
However, when Respawn reassured audiences about its commitment to the Star Wars Jedi franchise in 2025, its official statement referred to Jedi 3 as the “next” chapter in the series, not the last. This could just be a trivial, rhetorical inconsistency, but it’s worth considering, especially since this is the most recent word on the matter.
