AMD and Microsoft have teamed up to bring Advanced Shader Delivery across more gaming devices, which can cut load times and stuttering by up to 95% in a growing list of supported games. Advanced Shader Delivery is now supported on AMD graphics cards released in 2019 or later.
Although AMD has consistently lagged behind its chief competitor in the gaming GPU market, Nvidia, that has not stopped the tech giant from making an impact in the gaming industry. Earlier this year, AMD reported its largest financial quarter in the company’s history, with a reported 38% year-on-year growth in revenue in Q1 2026. AMD’s growth was fueled by demand for AI infrastructure. Given that AMD processors will be used in the upcoming PS6 and Xbox Project Helix consoles, AMD’s gaming reach continues to grow.

Some PC Games Now Load Faster with AMD Graphics Cards
As for PC gamers, some users can now reduce their loading times via free updates. According to a June 11 Microsoft developer blog update, Microsoft’s Advanced Shader Delivery technology has been expanded to include gaming desktops and laptops that have an integrated AMD Radeon RX graphics card. This feature has already been present in Asus ROG Xbox Ally devices since October 2025. In short, Advanced Shader Delivery takes the process of compiling some shaders from gaming devices and moves them into the cloud instead. These pre-compiled shaders can then be distributed to users once a game is downloaded and installed.

By doing so, this can cut load times by 95% and can reduce shader stutter in the process. Microsoft stated that load times on Forza Horizon 6 were reduced from 1.5 minutes down to around four seconds with Advanced Shader Delivery. Microsoft stated that its Forza Horizon 6 test was conducted on a PC with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800 CPU and a Radeon RX 7600 GPU, neither of which is considered a current-gen product. As of this writing, Advanced Shader Delivery is available for 36 titles via the Xbox PC app, including graphically intense titles such as Final Fantasy 16, Starfield, and The Outer Worlds 2. This list will change as more developers work with Advanced Shader Delivery to ensure their game’s shaders are pre-compiled via Microsoft’s cloud servers.
The system requirements for Advanced Shader Delivery state that users must have Windows 11 24H2 or newer, along with Xbox Gaming Services to version 37.113.11003.0 or higher, AMD Adrenalin version 26.6.1 or later, and an AMD graphics card with RDNA 1 architecture or newer. In short, AMD Radeon RX 5000 series cards are the bare minimum GPUs needed to support Microsoft Advanced Shader Delivery. However, a newer GPU like the Radeon RX 9070 XT is still recommended for playing games at high frame rates and for taking advantage of features like ray tracing in supported titles.

As for users with Nvidia graphics cards, Nvidia stated in March that Microsoft Advanced Shader Delivery would be supported later in 2026. However, no precise window was offered. Given that Nvidia has near-complete control of the gaming GPU market, it remains to be seen when AMD’s biggest competitor will add Advanced Shader Delivery to its repertoire.
