Spoilers ahead for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Zombies’ Rex Infernus map.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Zombies’ final map has arrived, and while many players were looking forward to the final main quest hunt, its payoff has been completely spoiled. As players work to actually solve the main quest, Chinese players have seemingly gotten the solution via a cheat tool, sharing the final Black Ops 7 Zombies cutscene and boss fight online as a result.
Cheaters ruining the last main quest that Call of Duty Zombies will have until late 2028 would be devastating enough on its own, but it becomes even more frustrating when looking at past occurrences. Black Ops 7 has struggled with leaks throughout its entire life cycle, with dataminers ruining the hunt for Relics in Astra Malorum and spoiling the Kowakujo main quest steps. The latter was particularly devastating, as it had been an epic hunt that briefly brought old content creators out of retirement prior to the steps being leaked. While the actual steps of Rex Infernus have yet to be spoiled, it only feels like a matter of time before a content creator is handed the solution yet again, ending the hunt early.
One Cursed Relic, the Totenreich Wrestling Belt, remains unsolved and unspoiled. With Rex Infernus’ hunt compromised, this Relic is going to have to be the community’s true final hunt.
Call of Duty Zombies’ Final Cutscene Leak Sparks Backlash
Unfortunately for Treyarch, the early response to the leaked Rex Infernus cinematic is on the negative side. Players dislike the “safe” approach to Requiem’s fate despite the writing being on the wall since MWZ, and they’ve shared a disdain for the overuse of cliffhangers. While some players have been quick to point out that Zombies seasons have pretty much always had divisive endings since Black Ops 2‘s Origins, many players seem to be let down by the cinematic, wishing Richtofen pulled off an evil plot or that everyone got a happy ending like Maya did. Players also feel like The Twins not being a bigger reveal was disappointing.

However, it’s important to note that players are essentially filling gaps themselves and judging the cutscene purely by its visual storytelling, as the leaked cinematic is entirely in Chinese. This means that Maya’s goodbye to Dempsey, Grey’s brief and emotional reunion with Ava, and the exact logic behind Requiem’s sacrifice could be well-written and players would have no idea. Individual character dialogue has been a strength of BO7 Zombies, after all, so there’s certainly a chance these moments hit harder when the cutscene is in English.

Games like The Last of Us 2 suffered because of players making assumptions without having the full picture and pre-judging an experience based on leaks, and to some extent, that’s happening right now with Rex Infernus. Players aren’t getting to see this cinematic after an intense fight with the Warden after a big Easter egg hunt. They’re seeing it out of context, in another language, and as the result of a leak that has already sucked the fun out of the experience. Obviously, there’s a chance for the scene to have fallen flat either way, but the scenario in which it’s been revealed hasn’t helped matters.
As CoD Zombies veterans continue to argue with the fans of the newer iterations, and cheaters continue to ruin one of the most fun elements of the mode, it’s undeniably a rough time to be a fan of Call of Duty’s iconic round-based experience. While Treyarch really hit its stride with the map design of Black Ops 7, not to mention Cursed mode and Survival maps, it’s clear that there’s still work to be done when it comes to preserving surprises.
