Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake Is Skipping State of Play, Says Insider

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake Is Skipping State of Play, Says Insider

Fans waiting for the long-rumored remake of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag shouldn’t get their hopes up for a reveal at Sony’s next State of Play event, according to a trusted insider. Ubisoft has yet to confirm that it is actively developing a remake of the hugely popular Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, but numerous leaks and rumors have been circulating online for years now, leading many to question when an official reveal will finally take place. Sadly, it doesn’t look like it’s going to be anytime this month.

Rumors of an Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remake stem all the way back to 2023, when Kotaku first reported that Ubisoft was in the early stages of bringing back undoubtedly one of the most popular entries in the series. Over the years, more and more evidence has continued to mount, but Ubisoft has still yet to officially announce the project. The original title was released first on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in October 2013, before making its way to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC just a month later. Its blend of classic Assassin’s Creed parkour, assassinations, and new naval combat earned the sixth installment in the series critical acclaim, so it’s no surprise that its rumored remake is one of the most anticipated Ubisoft titles in years.

Classic Assassin’s Creed Games Could Be Getting Big Upgrades

Ubisoft may be working on some significant upgrades for some classic Assassin’s Creed games, offering a much-improved experience for players.

Rumored Black Flag Remake Apparently Won’t Be at PlayStation’s State of Play

With rumors pointing toward a potential PlayStation State of Play event this month, many have speculated that this could be the perfect opportunity for Ubisoft to show off the first official look at the Black Flag Remake. However, insider Shinobi602 shut down one fan by simply responding to the suggestion with “Nah.” They then go on to explain in a follow-up response that Ubisoft isn’t holding the remake back, and that both reveal and release dates are already set, but that it’s “just not time yet.” They then conclude by saying that the reveal of the long-awaited title is “not too far off.” Hopefully, this means fans can finally expect an announcement to arrive in the coming months.

The good news is that it looks like the Black Flag Remake is still alive and well after the recent Ubisoft shake-ups, which saw the publisher cancel a myriad of different titles, including the highly anticipated Prince of Persia remake, last month. However, the bad news is that the long-awaited Black Flag Remake was apparently delayed by the studio in the process. Reports suggested that the title was initially going to launch as early as March of this year, but its new release window remains a mystery.

Although unofficial, a PEGI rating revealed that the remake will be titled Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, which Ubisoft even jokingly acknowledged with a Grand Theft Auto meme late last month. With evidence continuing to mount up, as fans even discover a potential Collector’s Edition statue for the remake, it’s becoming clear that the title is one of Ubisoft’s worst-kept secrets. But with the studio going through some internal restructuring, fans may want to take any rumors and leaks with a pinch of salt, as Ubisoft has made it abundantly clear it’s not afraid to cancel a game at the very last second.

Those who were looking forward to a new multiplayer Assassin’s Creed game will be disappointed to learn that a new title, known as Assassin’s Creed League, was part of the studio’s mass cancellations last month. Reports suggest that League was initially going to be a DLC for Assassin’s Creed: Shadows and would see four players team up in feudal Japan. The good news is that it looks like Ubisoft is still looking to implement multiplayer into future Assassin’s Creed games, but the exact capacity of how this will be accomplished is unknown.
